What to do and see in San Diego, California (CA): The Best Distilleries

March 26, 2022 Moriah Teneyck

San Diego embodies laid-back California culture, complete with a Boardwalk, surfing communities, and outstanding Mexican food. Breathe in the fresh ocean air at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, then gobble down a fresh fish taco at a La Jolla seafood joint. The naval aircrafts at the USS Midway Museum will have you standing at attention. A free Sunday concert at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion is the perfect way to unwind after a Saturday night bar-hop in the thumping Gaslamp Quarter.

Geoff is a true craftsman and expert distiller. The attention to detail and quality that goes into each offering is amazing. The Gins are phenomenal. Yes phenomenal. The tasting is worth the fee! They offer tastings that include mini cocktails. They start you off with the base spirit and then add various ingrefients based on your specific palate prefferences. This is a very artful culinary tasting...but served in the middle of the distillery ...located in a warehouse district. This elevated tasting is worthy of your time. You will certainly want to purchase bottles to take home for future enjoyment! Fyi: Their website posts very nice cocktail recipes for each if their various offerings. * call ahead for a private tasting. Memorable!

Mikkeller Brewing San Diego

Pick a beer and you won’t be disappointed. The IPAs are mostly NE style, which is why I may be partial. The Windy Hill is my favorite San Diego beer so if nothing else, order this one. The space is tucked away in a section of a giant business plaza which is a bit unorthodox but there are a few other breweries within a short driving distance, which is nice. The space is large, airy and a bit cold so bring a jacket. All small negatives aside, this place has delicious brews so don’t miss it!
