What a great find - 6 of us just spent a terrific couple of hours getting an informative tour of the 14th century winery and cellars, followed by a tasting of their excellent wine which was accompanied by a selection of local cured meats, cheese and house made bread. The Luiano family were good enough to accommodate us with only a few hours notice - so probably best to give them a call the day before. Theirs is a great story of 3 generations making wine on the property and their personality and passion for what they do makes for a great experience. So much more than just a tasting. We really enjoyed the whole experience and made sure we came away with a great selection of wine to stock up on, at very reasonable prices. An absolute highlight of our Tuscan stay! .

I visited the winery with a tour group. The lady that led the wine tasting was hilarious. I really enjoyed a couple of their wines and really enjoyed a long aged balsamic vinegar - it was surprisingly delicious. The winery definitely appeared geared toward tour groups but it was a wonderful experience either way.

Casa Museo Machiavelli

Steeped in history: the thick stone walls and cellars, and the vineyards and landscape beyond were home to Niccolò Machiavelli during his troubled, creative exile from Florence. He would eat and play cards every day at the Albergaccio inn, and at night, in the library, he would read the classics that inspired his rapid drafting of The Prince. Beautifully restored, it has preserved the rustic, elegant cuisine of the Tuscan Renaissance with a wine-making tradition of the highest calibre.

Niccolò Machiavelli is a highly important figure both for the Italian history and for the Florence. This is one of the most non-mainstream museums with rich history. My guide was an amazing woman who was in love with Machiavelli and showed me the whole house with its secret and hidden places — the excursion was full of interesting and historic facts which gave a full understanding of Niccoló's life here. Garden is just a piece of art, and I could look at vineyards for years. P. S. You HAVE to visit the restaurant, it's a must-have. You'll be amazed with this traditional Tuscany meals. Even if you're a vegetarian (I am), you can still find yummy meals. P. S. 2. As an illustrator, I will definitely go back and try to capture a sunset. It's a magical place. Note: the bus system is WEIRD. When you're taking a bus to Saint Andrea in Percussina station, tell the driver that you need the Machiavelli Villa exactly. Also you can not buy tickets in Santa Maria Novella train station, the bus stop is about 10 minutes walk from it. Once you find yourself in Saint Andrea, look for Villa's sign — they're quite big — and get off the bus just on the opposite side. Remember, that buses here do not go every half an hour and there's a certain schedule, different for different days.

Castello di Gabbiano

Reviewed By kport45

My family and I stayed at one of the apartments at Castello di Gabbiano in mid-October. We absolutely LOVED every second of our stay. Cornelia and Raisa were very responsive to the questions we had before our trip, and very welcoming once we arrived. The castle and grounds are so beautiful, I think we took a photo every time we stepped outside. It was the perfect destination to drink some of their delicious wine (we had a private tour and wine tasting) and relax in the picturesque countryside. The restaurant on site is excellent! We also took the amazing cooking class with Chef Francesco, and loved it! He was so patient in teaching us how to make fresh pasta! The location is perfect for visiting nearby cities in the area (it's a quick drive to Siena, San Gimignano, and Greve/Montefioralle.) Overall, I loved our stay and didn't want to leave! I hope to come back to stay at Castello di Gabbiano soon! Thank you!
