We attended opera, recital and symphony performances in the Grosses Festspielhaus. The seating was reasonably comfortable and the acoustics were fine. The performances during the Salzburg Festival were topnotch.

Schlosskonzerte Mirabell

Best classical chamber music: Bach, Mozart, Haendel, Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Dvorak, Liszt ect. in the most beautiful baroque style concert hall of Salzburg: The famous Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace. Enjoy a "Salzburg Palace Concert" where even young Mozart performed for the Salzburg royalty!

Mozart's hometown Salzburg has many attractions, and Mirabell Palace is one of the major attractions. Although the exterior of infamous Mirabell Palace building and its breathtaking garden are open to public, the elegant Marble Hall of the palace is not open to public except for special events. Mirabell Palace Concert is one of those special events when the concert goers can have a chance to enter the elegant and charming Marble Hall. Listening to light classical music by Mozart and other composers in such an elegant palace hall was an unforgettable experience. I ordered the ticket for one of the palace concerts via "Viennaconcerts" online site in advance, receiving an e-mail confirmation. There were 2 categories of tickets: Category I ticket (Numberred seats for € 40 per adult) & Category II ticket (Open seats for € 34 per adult: Seats behind or sides of Category I seats). I bought Category I ticket to get a good seat. On the day of the concert, I entered the palace through the side entrance of Mirabell Palace 35 minutes before the concert time, and walked up to the Marble Hall's waiting room. There were many people already standing along the walls in and out of the waiting room. Instead of standing behind them, I passed them, and walked straight to the counter with "Tickets" signs inside the waiting room. There, I showed my printed e-mail confirmation to a ticket agent behind the counter, who looked at the confirmation e-mail and gave me a slip showig my seat number. Then, I waited alongside a wall with other people who had already received their seat slips. When we were called to enter Marble Hall, I went in and sat on my designated seat. The walls and ceilings were so elegantly decorated, and the chamber music was so delightful. It was a marvelous and memorable experience.

I am really grateful to the Tripadvisor community for sharing their varied thoughts on such attractions - we felt so much better informed before booking. Given the comments about the warmth of the room, price of wine and spreading out of service over the evening, we had a good swig of water from our water bottles in the car park, and bought two beers and a litre of sparkling water for the evening which lasted us nicely at 15 Euros for the two of us (also we had a glass of champagne as we splashed out on the upgrade meal). My wife and I (as well as other guests) were swept up into the performance at various points - unless you are performing in an opera, I can't image where else you might end up being serenaded face to face by a professional opera singer with a much loved Mozart aria. The tables are in rows of four, not that many rows, so despite the large size of room there is an intimacy and humour which it would be impossible to replicate in a concert hall. The quality of music was excellent, as was the food. Perhaps in response to previous tripadvisor comments, the drinks bill was provided within seconds of the concert ending. This was an expensive treat, but a lot is provided for a limited number of guests. With second tier tickets to the festival performance of the Magic Flute selling for 340 Euros each, we were more than happy with our choice of entertainment here.
