Trail rides at This is The Place State Park are a lot nicer than you'd expect from a park that is practically in downtown Salt Lake City. The ride goes through the Wasatch Mountain foothills with spectacular views of the city, the Great Salt Lake and the Wasatch Mountains. It goes past the historic pioneer village and on my ride we saw mule deer, squirrels, magpies and a hawk.

The staff/docents were welcoming, accommodating, informative, and warmly received us. The architecture is gorgeous, particularly the stained glass. Would love to hear the huge pipe organ sometime!

McCune Mansion

Reviewed By Hermes_NL - Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The McCune Mansion is a classical and rather beautiful big red stone house on a prominent corner location on Capitol Hill in Salt Lake City. You can run into it when you are walking from the Temple Square to the Capitol. It looks particularly gorgeous in the setting sun. According to the sign on site, it was built in 1901 by the railroad and mining tycoon Alfred McCune and later in 1920 donated to the Church of Latter Day Saints. Now it is an event centre available to use for events. Not generally open to the public.

Beehive House

The utilitarian home of Brigham Young, the president of the Mormon Church.

I wandered into the Beehive House and joined a tour with four other people led by the very pleasant Linda, who was able to tell us plenty about the history of this beautiful house and its association with Brigham Young. The tour took about 30 minutes and I was glad I'd done it. Very recommended!
