My wife and I went on the tour of the reserve (guadua means "bamboo tree") in a cloud forest. Carlos was our guide, and for over two hours guided us through the forest, explaining the ecological issues that allow this marvelous place to survive. This survival is aided by the commitment of Carlos and his colleagues of the Kasaguadua Foundation, who are committed to preserving the forest. This was not only an educational and inspiring tour, but also provided a hike through beautiful scenery. It is free but donations are accepted (and really, really you should donate if you go on this tour). It is a short jeep ride from Salento, but also walkable. Don't miss it if you're in Salento!

Bosques de Cocora

Great hike which I did today in the Sunshine! No need to hire a guide or take a tour. Just take a Willis from the plaza in Salento (4000COP) to the trailhead. I went counterclockwise so you do your climbing of rocky trails with some step bits, then finish by walking down a road. Some do it the other direction. To do it counterclockwise, turn right down a trail just where you get dropped off. To go clockwise, walk straight up the road where you get dropped off, and you will see a gate where you get charged to enter private property.
I would suggest starting early especially if it is sunny due to the heat. Manly though, it gets really crowded later in the day. Take water, sunscreen and some food since you will be out there for 5-6 hours if you do it all. Good shoes- light hikers, trail runners etc. are recommended since you will be walking on rocky trails.
I went to the colibri sanctuary Acamie. It adds about an hour, costs 5000 COP and you get a coffee, hot chocolate or patella and you get to see some humming birds. Pass it up if you do not want to add the time (and the climb up) or pay for the entrance.
If you take your time for photos and breaks you could take up to 6 hours to complete the circuit.

We were hosted by Christian who walked us through the plantation and the coffeemaking process. He answered all of our numerous questions. At the end, you get to taste their coffee (included) and some of their pastries (extra).
The tourism activity of this finca is fairly new (1 year) and less "industrial" than it's neighbors - we were alone in our group so was the following one.

Ecoparque the Mirador and Alto de la Cruz

Climbing the very many stairs from the streets of Salerno up the hill is actually very pleasant. The view from each level is beautiful. On the sides of the stairs there are stations of the cross for those who want to use this opportunity to enhance their spirituality. The entrance to the entertainment park is half way up. At the top amazing view awaits and good photo opportunities in every direction. There are also many pleasant vendors with refreshments and souvenirs, at least on the day of our visit. Going further back on the top of the hill you will get to see "the other side", the gorgeous, panoramic view of the valle de cocora.
Do not let the towering staircase make you apprehensive - the climb is easy and well worth the little effort.

Iglesia Nuestra Senora del Carmen

This church provides a nice respite after visiting Salento, climbing up and down the town's hill - Mirador Alto de la Cruz and walking the network of Salento's vibrant streets. Rather simple inside it is inviting and friendly. It features many pretty little details inside and a full of expression reclining statue of wounded Jesus.
