We had a marvelous time exploring the various trails - some were out in the open, and others in the woodsy area. The oak trees are absolutely amazing - great descriptions are available to learn about the vegetation. We watched a heron trying to catch his dinner.

We heard they were serving their boozy ice cream and made the trip over the hill to check it out. Of course we had to try (or re-try) the vodka and grog, but then on to the business of ice cream! The flavors were delicious...MoreThanks a Bunch for coming back and then writing a review about it. It really is much appreciated. llw

Fibers & Stitches

We stopped in to get out of the rain and explore the fabrics. The shop has a lot of panels and a lot of color options! There were many projects on the shelves for ideas, along with beautiful quilts on the walls. Prices were average for SWW quilt shops, just without the tax (yea!). I ended up not buying anything but the owner still printed me out a map to get back home - and avoid crossing the busy highway. Shop is on the right going south, so one must either cross the highways without a light or go the residential long way to get back north. I look forward to stopping by again and actually buying something as a thank-you.

Veterans Park

The civic-minded residents of Columbia City, and the St. Helens VFW, have built and maintained this small tribute to veterans. It is just off US 30, halfway between Deer Island and St. Helens. It includes the Coast Guard among veterans, which is appropriate, since my father commanded a CG patrol boat on the Columbia River, not far from here, during WWII.

A lovely treat for your senses... Wonderful scents and hundreds of beautiful, photogenic lilacs! Lilac Lovers Heaven!

This garden contains many mature lilacs of different varieties and colors, all highly fragrant. It is an Historically protected site that also includes a vintage farmhouse, a small gift shop and several unique lilacs for sale. This property near Vancouver, WA ( NOT BC ) is well worth the 2 1/2 hour drive from Seattle, or 1 hour drive from Portland. It is just off I-5 in the small town of Woodland.

The $3 admission is quite a bargain, and it is a nice respite when traveling by car from Seattle to Portland. If you like gardens, this is not to be missed!

Visit only between mid to late April and mid May when the lilacs are in bloom.

Everything indicates you can come anytime in April. Well....on April 5, there were no flowers in bloom in the fields. The website didn't have anything to indicate that it was too early, but apparently it was. I love tulips and wanted to see fields full, but didn't get to do so. Maybe wait until mid-late April.

St. Helens Visitors Center

There are so many things to do and see in South Columbia county. Two popular movies have had scenes filmed here and there are plenty of historic, haunted and scenic attractions in this town and county. October is the busiest month of the entire year for us as we have a month long Halloween celebration, called the Spirit of Halloweentown. We are Halloweentown! Come on down and get all the info!

Reviewed By Ann T - Bury St. Edmunds, United Kingdom

The visitor centre is great and chronicles the eruption of Mt St Helens in an excellent way. The drive up is beautiful and the effect of the eruptions unfolds as the drive climbs the mountain. The scenery is dramatic yet beautiful. Absolutely fascinating if you are interested in volcanoes but a great place to visit for the landscape.

McCormick Park

Reviewed By Ray B - Oregon

The best park in St. Helens. You will find a nice picnicking area, a playground structure, a World War I memorial, a gazebo, indoor restrooms, a BMX park, a very cool skateboarding bowl, baseball fields with concession stand, volleyball, a soccer field, walking trails, a camping area, and a beautiful creek that flows thru the park. In addition there is a very good Frisbee golf course that covers a large area.
