The "Parc National de Volcans" (or PNV as it's known by locals) lies along the Virunga Mountains, with 8 ancient volcanoes, which are shared by Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Just a short two hour drive from Rwanda's capital of Kigali, the park is a central location for exploring some distinctly Rwandan experiences. This trip has been truly spectacular. Everything was well organised. Our guides, Eugene and Emmanuel were very knowledgable and witty, filling us with facts and stories on the Agashya gorilla family that we visited. Our porters were also very helpful as we went through muddy slopes in the jungle. I would definitely recommend hiring porters not only because they are helpful but also as a contribution to local economy. No words can express how amazing it was spending time with the gorillas in the wild and in such close proximity. Go see it for yourself!

Hiking the Congo Nile Trail from Gisenyi to Kibuye was definetly my highlight of Rwanda and one of the most amazing things I experienced so far. The landscape and nature at Lake Kivu is simply beautiful and Fred taught me a lot about culture, agriculture and politics in his country. We had really nice conversations during these four days and hiked paths off the main trails. I totally recommend doing the Congo Nile Trail with a local as it is a different and more valuable experience than going by yourselves. Fred and Francis are very nice people, always trying to help, and I'll definitely come back to see them again. All the best to you guys!

Lakeside Farm is one hour from Kigali and we are open for visitors. Many come for a tour of the hatchery, our wide range of animals and our organic farm. Others come for overnight get-aways. We have a guesthouse and a fantastic campground.

My family loves to visit Lakeside Fish Farm. It’s an easy camping adventure because we can order a delicious fish dinner, and the team there sets up the tent and even starts the campfire for us. Everytime we visit we greet the pigeons, pigs, goats, chickens, and lungfish, and spend a lot of time sitting with guinea pigs and rabbits, and playing with the friendly dogs. Last time we also held the baby goats and baby turkeys! We enjoyed the walk past all the fish ponds and gardens, and learned a lot with our tour of the special fish tanks. We got to kayak on the lake. The kids also loved swings and slack line. I’d definitely recommend visiting Lakeside for a fun family overnight out of Kigali!

We did the Canopy Trek one day and the Chimpanzee Trek is he next. Both were excellent. The guides were very good and the experiences were unforgettable. We also appreciated the traditional dancers after the Chimpanzee Trek. They were awesome. Nice touch.

John is 27, a really nice local guy who takes you on a 3-4 hours boat trip. We really enjoyed ourselves. We even spent more time after the trip in the nearby beach bar to hear something about the ruandan culture. His English is really good and he has a lot of information to give.
