There are a number of similar memorials featuring wild geese, the symbol for exiled Irish soldiers and personage. Impressive monument with surrounding plaques commemorating the escape of Irish Fenians, Robert Cranston, Thomas Darragh, Michael Harrington, Thomas Hassett, Martin Hogan, and James Wilson. who were given passage by the American whaler, Catalpa, off Rockingham following their escape from Fremantle Prison in 1876. The whaler had been purchased and refitted by another Fenian, John Boyle O'Reilly, who had escaped from a convict gang near Bunbury in 1869. Rockingham Beach

Reviewed By cyndilou

So recently visited one of my fave spots in Perth... Rockingham Beach. It's a must for anyone visiting the Rockingham area. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and loved the vibrant hub of activity that was going on. Walking along the esplanade, the beautiful lush lawns and shady trees in the parkland alongside the beach were full of familys picnicking and having a good time. As I strolled along the path between the park and the beach, an elderly gentleman was sitting on a chair playing the harmonica. He was not busking as he didn't have anything out to collect money, he was simply playing for the sheer joy of it. I stopped and listened to his joyful music for a while before continuing down the pathway. Hey, there are some really cool historical facts imprinted in the path, and well worth a read if you have time! Anyway, down towards the pier are a whole heap of very cool cafes and restaurants right on the beachfront. I've tried them all, and they are all fantastic. The stand out everytime though is the customer service in Rockingham...it is absolutely brilliant. The locals are all super friendly and helpful. The beach at Rockingham is beautiful and clean - I believe a truck comes along at the crack of dawn and sweeps the beach, keeping it looking just glorious. Beside the pier, and right in front of the cafes, you will find lots of umbrellas and green areas with sun lounges and decks to sit and relax. Really, Rockingham has thought of everything here! So, if you're visiting Perth, please do pop down South and visit the Rockingham area... there are so many different beaches and you'll find the locals welcome you with open arms. I loved it so much, I'm considering moving there!

This lake has lots of History which dates back many centuries ago, the aboriginals camped here and used it for food and drink. During the First World War the soldiers from Perth camped and trained here before being sent to Egypt according to the markers put up around the Lake by Alcoa....My husband and I often walk around this Lake, there are lots of wild life, watching the large Pelicans fly over to their nesting place is very pleasant to see...there is also a lookout to walk up to view the lake, ...The walk around this lake takes at least an hour to walk around leisurely.....very enjoyable
