What to do and see in Rhodes Town, Greece: The Best Places and Tips

October 27, 2017 Marlin Saiz

The largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands on the Aegean's eastern edge, Rhodes is also its most popular. The well-preserved medieval city of Rhodes sits at the north of the island of the same name. High rise hotels line the northern and eastern coastlines. Small villages and resorts dot the island's other shores. Whether your interests are beaches, bars or ancient sites, Rhodes offers an abundance of all three. Authentic Greece can be found in the hilly interior of the 50-mile long island.

This is Medieval city located in the heart of the island and it has lots of buildings inside. Churches, Mosques, shops, restaurants and houses. It must be visited at least 1 days to understand and enjoy...You can take amazing pictures. Only the problem is little bit expensive cause it is very touristic.

Great place to spend several hours seeing the surrounding old castle, walking down the street of the knights then shopping in the small stores, and having lunch in the square or just having a greek beer and people watching! Lots of places to eat, shop. Many Cats around if you are a cat lover. Places where you can pay a small price to see ancient artifacts (castle museum). Recommend taking a tour of the Castle area including this historic with free time afterwards to do the above activities. Without the tour you will miss a lot of the history. Our group tour did struggle a little with the cobblestone road and fairly steep hill so if you have problems walking it can be a little bit of a challenge.

Archaeological Museum of Rhodes (Hospital of the Knights)

Reviewed By Don_G_Wright - Vancouver, Canada

It’s scary to imagine the tools and methods they employed to heal the sick and aid the wounded, but it is indeed rare to find a building this old that was specifically established as a hospital. It’s a massive building, with endless hallways and countless rooms — but one large room was particularly striking — cavernous in fact, and lined along each side with small dark and windowless rooms. We were told this is where the patients stayed. Other rooms now host artifacts from archeological sites across Rhodes Island that help tell the story of life here over the millennia. In the courtyards there are numerous statues, and at the back of the main garden there is a covered exhibition of sections of magnificently tiled floors — easy to miss if you don’t venture into the garden. Pairs well with the Palace of the Grand Master — in fact the combo ticket gets you into both.

We have been visiting Rhodes for a few years now and have been looking for somewhere to ride and this year we found Elpida. We are not experienced riders so we just selected a one hour ride for starters. The whole experience took about 2 hours as we got to know our horses by brushing them before the ride. We then had some instruction on riding western style and then out on the ride. Elpida and her husband were very friendly and helpful and we will definitely repeat our visit next time we visit the island - probably for a longer ride next time. A huge thanks to both of them and the horses we rode x
