This is a trail that goes nearly 10 miles around the perimeter fence of Lake Youngs. This lake is a reservoir that supplies the city of Seattle with drinking water, so it is fenced to prevent contamination. The trail varies from a gravel road, to a single track trail, but is well maintained and it travels outside the perimeter fence. You cannot see the lake from anywhere along the trail as it travels through woods, along roads and behind residential developments. The morning I took my bike ride was sunny (although the trail is mostly in the shade due to dense forest) and there were not many people out. The trail has an elevation gain of over 800 feet according to my iPhone and it took just under an hour to complete the ride -- starting at my house which is about half a mile from the trailhead.
