Paringa Bridge

Reviewed By branham2016 - Adelaide, Australia

Travelling eastward from Renmark to Mildura and beyond, one must travel over the Paringa Bridge. The Bridge is unique and historically notable. Opened in 1927 as a rail-road bridge with separate road sections on either side of the rail added later. Rail was closed in 1982 and the centre lane converted to a shared pedestrian and cycle path. The four sectioned bridge has one which can be raised 9.1 metres in one and half minutes to enable river craft to pass under. The bridge has been listed on the South Australian Heritage Register. I always love crossing this bridge as it gives brilliant views of the Murray without another vehicle blocking the view. The red steel superstructure is striking and when approaching 9.30am and 2.30pm when a bridge section raises to ensure that it is working, there is always a rush of adrenaline that you may get stuck, have to wait and you just have to get over before the raising starts! The best views of the raising to enable craft to travel under the bridge are from the Bert Dix Memorial Park adjacent to Sturt Highway on the Paringa side of the river. Return? Yes when travelling in the area or travelling to the eastern states.

We stopped by for lunch on a recent trip to Renmark and we were so glad we were so glad we did! The food was delicious. So many menu options to suit everyone. We loved the pan seared squid and the crumbed camembert. We visited with our 4 kids and all enjoyed their meals. We sat outside as it was a nice day. The kids happily played on the grass. We had a tasting flight each which we thoroughly enjoyed and also got the kids juice/soft drink tastings which the kids thought was a great novelty. We purchased some bottles of whisky, vodka and rum after our tastings, you got $10 off a bottle if you had purchased a tasting flight.

Lock 5

Built during the 1920's to regulate the flow and the levels of the Murray River. Visit the informative rotunda explaining how the Lock was installed and maybe see a vessel passing through.

Cammies Antiques and Collectables

Reviewed By branham2016 - Adelaide, Australia

Cammies at Paringa is a must visit. It is loaded with memories and a huge variety of antiques and collectibles. The first reaction when entering Cammies is “where on earth do, I begin?” There are multiple aisles all leading through wonderful discoveries. From furniture to glassware, books to records, dinner sets to cup, saucer and plate sets, old phones to vintage grocery tins and packages …. and much, much more. Conveniently grouped, salt’n’pepper sets, boxed model cars, photographic equipment, figurines, rocks, shells, blue glassware it is all at Cammies. I really can’t describe what the overstocked aisles look like – so please look at my photos of the visit. Local produce and arts and crafts are also available. I love wandering places like Cammies looking for that something special which I did not think I really needed until I saw it. It is also the memory factor of “my grandparents had that”; “great-aunt had that in her lounge”. It is also the adrenaline rush of fossicking and discovering. Parking is available in front of Cammies - just off the main road. Thanks to Cammies for providing enjoyment. And the elephant figurine I bought will be looked after. Return? As stock continually evolves in places like Cammies, I shall return when the opportunity arises.

Renmark Club

Reviewed By MarilynC270 - Adelaide, Australia

We stopped in for lunch and chose the sweet potato and caramelized onion pizza to share. It was plenty for the two of us. We decided to have "smores" hot chocolates with meringue and marshmallows with a Scotch finger biscuit. What a yummy lunch, which was even more enjoyable because we sat outside under cover overlooking the river.
