Arulmigu Mangalaleswari Udanurai Mangalanatha Swamy Temple

Reviewed By SudhanshuM8

When we were passing through Ramnathapuram to Rameshwaram, my who ws traveling with me got to know about it and we planned to visit this temple after Rameshwaram Darshan. This temple is nearly 30 min bus ride from Ramnathapuram Centrl Bus Station (You can find buses to and fro). If you are not used to of crowded buses then you should hire a taxi. This temple is believed to be the world's oldest (first) shiva temple a claimed by temple authorities. Tis temple is also famous for its Nataraja idol made of Emerald stone, which is covered with sandal paste for 11 months except the month of January in which it i cleaned and kept as it is for Darshana. It is also believed that Ravana & Mandodari got married here in this temple. Few people say that the shiva linga Natraja iol was established by Ravana himself. Whatever this temple is a must visit place if you are going to rameshwaram. It has many resemblances with rameshwaram temple from the architecture point of view. Villoondi Tirtham

Reviewed By SandeepSaxena-IIP - Dehradun, India

Witness Ramayan in action here. The place finds mention also in Valmiki Ramayan. Rameshwaram is well-known for its temple tanks but a place that is of special importance is the Villoondi Theertham. Legend has it that this was created with lord Rama shot an arrow to get fresh water from the sea to quench his wife Sita’s thirst. Located about 7 km from the Ramanathaswamy Temple, this place offers some stunningly beautiful and dramatic views of the sea. Incidentally, the place is named Villondi or 'buried bow' as it is believed to be the place where Lord Rama buried his bow and arrow. A long platform leads you to this holy well and it is magical to walk on it as you see the sea from both the sides. The water in the well is quite mysteriously sweet in spite of being surrounded by salt sea water all around and devotees believe it will do them good if they take a sip of this holy water. There is a small temple like structure adjoining this place and as you stand at the edge of the platform, you can see statues of gods and goddesses in the water bed. The sight is quite fascinating, just like the place itself. 2

It's a man made marvel that is being erected on the Palk Straight. Unfortunately we can't park our car in the bridge. But we can walk on the bridge and adore the beauty of the sea.
