Perched atop the famous Quincy Quarries, Granite Links is the premier venue for golf, weddings and celebrations in the Boston area. As a private membership club that also welcomes public visitors, Granite Links offers a truly unique experience. While the public may enjoy 27 holes of golf, dining or hosting an event, there are also various member-only facilities and tee time access to a reserved nine holes each day.
Sunday morning my husband surprises me with a stop at Granite Links clubhouse-The Tavern for Brunch. Well it is set high above the area and over looks the Boston skyline. It was a brisk 9 degrees with the a windchill take brought it to below zero. The club house is lovely and the Tavern well designed. We asked for a table near the window so we could overlook Boston. The brunch was a special menu with all the usual breakfast fair. The food was good and the staff very nice. We want to go back for dinner.

The quarries provide a very unusual combination of graffiti art gallery and outdoor climbing gym. We were there for the climbing and were not disappointed. Most of the routes are bolted for toprope, which is unusual for outdoors. Of course you can trad climb if you want, but I didn't see anything bolted for sport climbing. My son and I are mostly gym climbers (he's competitive, I'm not so much), but were more than able to rig the gear necessary to climb here. Most routes require nothing but short slings and biners. You should bring some long slings, static rope, etc just in case. All of the routes are accessible from the top via easy and short hiking trails. The ground is generally flat and obstacle-free at the bottoms. These are all single-pitch climbs, with the tallest we saw about 60 feet high. There are literally hundreds of climbs here, ranging from 5.3-5.12+. As expected, we found the gradings about 2 levels harder than typical indoor climbs. We had a great time and a great workout, and the public art (some in-process as we climbed) was a bonus! Even if you don't climb, this would be a fun place to spend the afternoon. There are plenty of shaded spots where you could sit and have a picnic lunch and watch the climbers and artists, and scrambling around the quarries could easily soak up a few hours. Wear rugged shoes and watch out for the broken glass. Unfortunately, there's a lot of broken glass.
