What to do and see in Queenstown, South Island: The Best Fun Activities & Games

October 21, 2021 Elouise Mccaul

Staggering beauty and heart-pumping thrills await in the resort town of Queenstown, which is also known for its Hobbits—much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed in the area. Outdoor enthusiasts flock to Queenstown for the kayaking, bungee jumping, jetboating, white-water rafting, hiking and skiing. More mild-mannered adventurers can take a quiet cruise through nearby Milford Sound, part of the Fjordland National Park World Heritage area, or sample South Island pinot noir from one of the region's 75 wineries.

What a fantastic business in Queenstown. Our group of 25 teenagers absolutely loved it and rated it as the best activity they did on an 11 day tour of New Zealand. We did the Ropes Challenge and Archery Combat, perfectly suited to our group. Event the four adult managers could get involved (and get some payback with the Archery Combat)! Penny & Aaron are wonderful to deal with, lots of fun and laughs. They were so accommodating and nothing was a bother for them. The facility is great, lots of open space to do all the activities and their office has toilets, water and a few small snacks for purchase. We will be putting The Playground on our regular itinerary from now on.

A very good indoor trampoline setup - a great rainy day activity for kids of all ages and anyone else keen to burn off some energy. Our 3.5 year old daughter had never been to a place like this before, but the staff were awesome in letting her know what to do (pretty much - just jump around!) and she was soon bouncing all over the place. There's a good range of tramps - from super-bouncy olympic-style tramps, to big soft pits & pads that the kids can launch themselves into. There's a small viewing platform for parents to watch from, although with the place pretty quiet, the staff welcomed us to roam around the place with our daughter which helped her to get confident with her leaping. We honestly thought our daughter would be bored after 15 minutes - but we had to drag her away after an hour of jumping! Decent value for money. Special shout-out to the awesome staff there on Friday morning!

Really fun activity for the kids (and adults). Great variety of fun climbs, with different levels of challenges for everybody, not just your bog standard climbing wall. Fantastic staff - we made a very last minute booking, arrived a few minutes late, kid number three promptly threw up right at the entrance! The staff didn't stress at all, helped us clear up and got the other kids climbing straight away.

Lee van der Geest Art & Workshops

Lee van der Geest is a local Queenstown resident artist who sculpts and paints using a variety of mediums. Lee started her career as a florist and has since progressed to sculpture and painting. Her works are mostly inspired by nature, evident by her use of materials collected while exploring the Wakatipu Basin. Come and work with Lee in her cosy straw bale home to create your own unique piece of art. She has a variety of class options available to suit any and all levels.

I loved attending my first Wire Art class with Lee at her amazing home studio overlooking Lake Hayes. We got to choose what we would like to make and I made a fabulous wire heart and some funky flowers for my garden, the friends I went with all made gorgeous Christmas trees. It was a real hands on class with Lee there to show and guide us in making our pieces, she was an amazing tutor giving us one on one help when needed and ensuring we all made a masterpiece that we took away and were very proud of. She was a great host and treated us to delicious homemade baking and we could also view her amazing works of art in the studio and in her garden, she is certainly one clever lady. This is a great thing to do with a group of friends or by yourself as you are made to feel right at home whether just you or in a group. I would highly recommend going along to one of Lee's classes where you will go away feeling chuffed with yourself and what you have created and have fun doing it.

The skyline is unbelievable, I highly recommend doing this if you’re in Queenstown, It give you amazing views up the top, great cafe with a lot of selections and the luge is a must. For kids 5 plus rides would be recommended but for adults I wouldn’t bother buying more than 3. It’s a good experience but the track isn’t that long. Highly recommend doing it all tho
