Joychandi Pahar

Raghunathpur

Reviewed By mohitbothraklg - Kolkata (Calcutta), India

Joychandi Pahar, Raghunathpur is in Purulia district of West Bengal. It is an hour distant from Purulia Town and close to Adra. There are several trains connecting Adra Junction / Joychandi Pahar Station. It is accessible through both the stations. There is Auto and Toto / E-rickshaws for the commute. It can also be reached by car / bus. Car  / Bus parking space are there at foothill. This place has gained it's significance after the shooting of the famous bengali movie "Hirak Rajar Deshe" by Satyajit Ray. Winter is the best season to enjoy the place. It is a picnic spot for the outsiders as well as local residents. This hill is also famous for rock climbing camps. There is no entry charges levied to climb up the hill or for picnic spot.  There are the temple of Chandi Mata and Hanuman Ji at the top of the hill. Add-ons are the ruins of an old fort. 360° view from top is really amazing. To view it, approx 500 steps to be climbed. It will take approx 20 - 30 mins to reach the top of the hill. One should carry water while climbing as it gets tiring after climbing such steps. In the last week of December, a carnival / fair/ mela named 'Joychandi Pahar Paryatan Utsav' takes place, where majorly local artists participates to showcase their skills and few famous artists participates in the cultural and entertainment activities . At this point of time, approx 50 - 60 stalls and few rides setup at the foothill attracting people from the nearby areas. Finally, this place has its own charm and worth a visit.
