Palazzo Ducale di Urbino

Reviewed By asonymous - Madrid, Spain

A gem of Renaissance architecture that gives you a sense of the sophistication of Duke Federico and his determination to create a cultural masterpiece in his small duchy. The inner courtyard is sublime and you can visit the stables/kitchens below to get an idea of the way the palace worked. When we went there were two exhibitions in the stables/kitchens and a wonderful exhibition on the influence of Ottoman and ME culture in Italian culture. Do not miss the Galleria Nazionale (paid entrance). All in all allow 3 hours for a relaxed visit but you could do it in less.

Furlo Pass

Reviewed By Artemis02 - Dallas, United States

Our family of 2 adults and 2 kids enjoyed several hours exploring the Furlo pass on the last Saturday in December. The landscape is stunning. It's absolutely beautiful!! There were other people in the area but it was not crowded. We had no problem parking the car at the various pull-offs and then walking along the road to explore the different spots of interest. The Etruscan and Roman tunnels were fascinating, as was the Roman-era drainage tunnel that you can still walk into and explore. We will definitely return in the summer to see the change of seasons in this lovely spot!

Castello di Gradara

Reviewed By susan155004 - Ottawa, Canada

we had no idea this castle existed but was recommended by a local. very glad he did. we have visited a number of castles all over europe. this is very well preserved. the minute you walk under the drawbridge you are back in time. you can look down into the drawbridge from above and see the mechanisms. there is a torture chamber, bedrooms, halls etc. to explore. there are signs explaining the rooms in english. there is paid parking and also free parking near-by. with the free parking there is a steepish walk up to the castle.we visited on a beautiful weekend and it was busy with locals but when you get into the castle itself there was hardly anyone walking around so you could take your time. we spent an extra 1 euro each to walk around the battlement. not a long walk but great views. the entrance fee into the castle is cash only so be prepared for that.
