What to do and see in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos: The Best Nature & Parks

March 17, 2022 Enedina Augsburger

The most populated of the Turks and Caicos islands, Providenciales is one of the world’s top beach destinations. The diving and snorkeling is as convenient as it is stunning, thanks to miles of coral reef that’s easily accessible from the shore. The upscale resorts and captivating beachscapes of Grace Bay make it a popular choice for waterfront escapes. The cliffs and crags of Chalk Sound make a lovely backdrop for kayaking the bright turquoise waters.

Half Moon Bay

Luxury beach

Reviewed By Karpk503 - London, United Kingdom

Worth a visit while in Provo. I got there via a boat drop-off that included a guided tour of the Iguana Island. Make sure to go through the vegetation and through to a pristine little beach adjacent to Half Moon Bay beach on Little Water Cay. The actual Half Moon Bay beach is pristine yet there's quite a bit of boat traffic going through and lots of people getting on and off boats. There's no on-foot access to the beach from Leeward, you have to arrive by boat. Caribbean Cruisin' has affordable options to get to the beach. They're located near the TCI ferry in the easternmost Leeward.

Bonefish Point

Reviewed By RescuedVegan - Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Forgot to review Bonefish Point from vacay last February (coming back this Feb and will deffo visit again!). We set off with our map to find a beach which was quiet, and took our cool bag full of everything we would need. This is a must. Seriously, it's a schlep for sure but so worth it if no one else arrives for the day! The drive up in our economy vehicle =interesting!! We didn't think the track was ever going to end, but once we saw the clearing, we parked up and walked about 20 yards and plonked our gear down. We had our doughnuts and a lilo and just lay in the sea bobbing along, for most of the day! The water is calm, and you don't get dragged away by the tide. We didn't hike over to the carvings, we walked along the top of the rocks and saw conch shells etc. all interesting stuff. If you like to be 'off the beaten track'..this is for you. We loved the quiet.... ate our sandwiches and had a bottle of pop! Definitely spend a day gathering your thoughts here... even if others turn up, they give you a wide berth and go to find their own 'piece of tranquil'... or maybe that's just us they gave the wide berth to!? LOL...

We had an amazing day with Kimcha village. We started by fishing around private reefs where Captain Kimmit found fish after fish. We caught Snapper and Barracuda. After fishing, Captain Kimmit took us to his private island oasis, Kimcha village, where he and his family have been building a completely different Turks and Caicos experience. The lunch was cooked outside with wood fire and the bar was open. We snorkeled at the reefs right off the beach. It was absolutely the best part of our trip to Turks. Captain Kimmit opened his family to ours. We left feeling like we’d made friends and would love to try the glamping at Kimcha village!

Little Water Cay

Island in the Turks and Caicos islands, the only place in the world to see the endangered rock iguana in its natural habitat.

Reviewed By ebr337

We rented a tandem kayak from Big Blue Collective. The staff gave us directions, and we set off! to Little Water Cay It probably took close to 30 minutes to kayak over there, but we were faster on the return trip. Pull up on the beach and there's a boardwalk trail. There are literally iguanas everywhere! You can see them or hear them scurrying around. I highly recommend continuing on the trail once the boardwalk ends and end up at Half Moon Bay. It's beautiful, deserted (when we were there), iguanas will come right up to you, and bring along the snorkel gear - there's reef right there in the shallow water. Bring cash to give the attendant at the beginning of the boardwalk.

Princess Alexandra National Park

Thirteen miles of undeveloped, protected beach, part of an effort to preserve the natural beauty of the islands.

Very good snorkeling. As soon as you get in the water, you see fish. They have buoys all around the protected reef. About 50 feet past the buoys on the right side is where the turtles are. I saw 4 turtles together by the grassy area. Also right outside the end of the buoys I saw a stingray and 2 spotted rays swimming together. There are may different types of fish but the coral is not as vibrant as other areas I have visited. Be advised that there are wind gusts in the TCI so the water is always choppy. I would not recommend diving later in the day. Also, I snorkel with a Body Glove vest for extra buoyancy and recommend this. It makes snorkeling very easy.

Highly recommend taking a day to explore Bright Reef. Snorkeling is a must. Just remember to stay outside of the buoyed/roped off area. If you don't you will get yelled at. The furthest edge of the roped off area is the best part to explore and you will see the most wildlife there. We saw multiple sea turtles when we went. We bought our snorkeling gear at a local grocery store for $30 so we were able to use it for multiple days.

We took our tiny rental car and made it to the beach and back out but would certainly recommend a better vehicle if possible. We snorkeled the artificial reef, which is totally worth seeing. Hopefully, it will keep growing and attracting marine life. There were security cameras that seemed to keep their eye on us, but we didn’t really mind-possibly due to the Aman resort just down the beach. Beautiful coastline - worth seeing.
