Very interesting and mysterious place. The huge stones turned out to be here after a volcanic eruption, and the ancient Thracians only shaped them and used the place as a sanctuary. There is an unpaved road to the sanctuary itself, but it is better to park the car at the end of the paved road and walk about a kilometer and a half.

Ropotamo Nature Reserve

We went on this tour and were glad we did. It started from our hotel in Nessebar by coach to the fast ferry over to Sozopol. We had a walking tour which was interesting and detailed - even in the rain! There are cafes, bars and souvenir shops there but we had lunch included in the tour so headed for that restaurant. The street are cobbled so bear in mind when choosing shoes! The food was lovely and as a vegan, I was accommodated. We then went by coach to the river which was peaceful, calm and had small turtles lazing about in it which was delightful. We then went back by coach to our various hotels. It was an easy paced day and showed another side to Bulgaria that you wouldn’t see if you didn’t venture out so we recommend it!
