Sprinkled along the Oregon coastline are some of the most scenic lighthouses in the world. But Cape Blanco Lighthouse stands out not just because it is on the very Western edge of the continent, but also because you can climb right up to the top and see the scenic view first hand.
It's free for kids and only $2 for adults to get a hand's on view of this historic place, listen to stories from volunteer docents, and then climb to the top and enjoy the panoramic coastline view.
Because it sits on a towering point you can expect stiff breezes and in the morning the fog comes and goes. For half of our 90 minute visit we were shrouded in fog, but then the wind would shift and suddenly we had stunning views up and down the coast. We visited several lighthouses along the West Coast, and this one had some of the most wonderful views.

Our second time here, still beautiful and worth the trip. The tour to the top is very informative. Don't miss the very nice Hughes House, a free tour.

Still, after all this time ... our favorite trail. First Westward toward Klooqueh Rock (the triangle rock) to sit on the bench & watch for whales and check for the sealions. Then to backtrack, taking the Right fork to Nellie's Point, overlook to both West & East; stay R from Nellie's Point to wrap around to the Deep Water Coast Guard, and back up to the museum and 'self-righting' lifeboat on display ... amazing!

We spent an evening here and the beach is beautiful. Sun set views are amazing. Convenient to just stop by and spend sometime since the beach is right across the road from the freeway.

Great park for camping, hiking, beach walking, whale watching, we thoroughly enjoyed this park. It is a great space for kids and families. Strenuous or easy hikes available, but little cell phone coverage except on the beach. The highway is near the camping area but there is no night traffic so it is quiet then. Just a great, inexpensive place to camp and relax.

The sailors posted to this station back in the day had nice views, good quarters and it was probably considered "good duty" - until bad weather hit and they were required to try to rescue boats that ran aground or hit underwater rocks off the coast. Then life was tough and scary, no doubt. You can see where and how they lived in the days before helicopter rescues.

The tour guide volunteer was very knowledgeable and he was genuinely interested in the history of the house and of the family's history.
The house had running water and hot water, plus indoor bathroom. It was nearly state of the art probably back then.
Even the kitchen had a history with the wood burning stove had a story on how it was transported from San Francisco and moved up into the house.
Each room had a story and the volunteers did an excellent job showing us around.

There are no fast food chains in Port Orford and only a handful of restaurants, so finding South Coast Gourmet was a great surprise. "Gourmet" almost scared me off because I'm not an adventurous eater, but the food is both delicious and healthy...well, mabe the...MoreSo happy you found us! I love visiting the Hawthorne Gallery. The owners are very kind and have really increased the class level of this small town. Long-time residents, these talented artists offer their own beautiful glass sculptures and paintings and curate a fabulous collection of additional art pieces worthy of fine investment. Do not expect low prices - this place caters to a wealthy clientele. It is definitely worth a stop though and just might fit your budget.
Be sure to stop in next door and check out their Redfish Restaurant too. So beautiful, overlooking Battle Rock Beach.

My wife and I stop at quilt shops when we travel. Quilter's Corner is a friendly well stocked store. Its always fun to find new fabrics and ideas. My wife found a new bag pattern she had not seen before and some interesting fabric. A good stop if you enjoy quilting and sewing.
