Ponta do Sol Beach

I have never been enthused by pebble Beaches but many people are. Ponta do Sol has a well constructed pebbled beach that is appreciated by many. The town itself boasts more than average sun and people flock from far and wide to soak it up. I can appreciate what went into constructing this small haven for some but not for me. The size of the boulders alone brought shivers to me spine. However each one to his own.

This is a pretty little church. There is some nice ornate decorations at the altar end of the church and it was a peaceful place to visit. It was a nice place to go and enjoy.
There is a small playground just outside that our daughter enjoyed using.

My wife and I had a great tour with Gregory arranged through the tourist place in Calheta opposite the Savoy Hotel. We travelled around the south side of the island in a minibus containing eight persons all English speaking. Gregory was a very good guide...Morethank you (obrigado)

Levada Nova

I was looking forward to our first levada walking but I was not quite sure what to expect. Choosing this levada route as our first hike in Madeira turned out to be great. After parking our vehicle close to Restaurante Rurais, we followed the sign for the trail head.
The walk itself was lovely, as it went through Valleys and Forests, although it was sad to see that the summer wildfires in July affected this area. We could see, though, new growth.
Throughout our walk, I remember having seen only about 5 people, which is what made the hike all the more enjoyable. This is a linear hike, so you retrace your steps back to the parking. Before you leave, have a coffee and a pasteis de nata ... well-deserved snack :-)

Bica Da Cana

There are so many great things to see in Madeira that aren't listed on Trip Advisor. Punch through the clouds into the blazing Sunshine and the view is surreal. Just East of the intersection of 101 & 211 you'll see lots of parked cars. East of the car lot is a road you can hike down to Rabacal (a tiny cluster of homes in a valley). It takes a little over an hour to reach. There are restrooms and water at the bottom. The best part is the road is closed to motor traffic and a government shuttle bus runs nonstop from the top to bottom. For a few Euros you can jump on board the bus straight back to your car!

Cabo Girao

We took the yellow tourist bus from Camara de Lobos where it was sunny. As we drove up the mountain it got more and more cloudy. At the top we could not see a thing but had to wait 40 minutes for the next bus. There is a small cafe and a rather tacky gift shop but nothing else. No doubt the glass walkway would be spectacular on a clear day but the weather let us down.

I am afraid of heights but this was awesome! My flight lasted 38 minutes and my girl friends lasted 23 minutes. She started to feel bad because of motion sickness and asked for faster landing hence the shorter flight. She took medication for that but she took it too early. She liked the flight and how they dealt with the fact that she started to feel sick. It was busy day there so we had to wait for our turn awhile but it was worth the wait. Friendly people running the place. Instructions were clear and easy to follow.

Loved this little gem of a museum. The collections within fleshed-out the history of the island's traditional life.. Its all here... the origins of espada fishing, wicker weaving and wine production, even toboggan transportation are excellently detailed. Lovely feeling inside and outside where we pursued the art of lunch.

Levada do Moinho

Reviewed By Bumali_Bumali - Hong Kong, China

We started our walking from Achadas da Cruz as it is much easier to go down by levada then to climb up against its flow.
There are no any tunnels so you don't need the flashlights but you need good boots as there are many Waterfalls and the path is slippery from time to time.
The way till Lamaceiros can be reached by levada do moinho for 6-8 hours. It's about 16 km if you reach 900 m to mater levada in the beginning point and come back.
The most way goes through the forest and it's really fantastic world for fantasy films like "The 10th Kingdom" or some others about hobbits and goblins. A lot of big trees, green moss, Waterfalls, no sun can reach this place because of high trees and buches, easy going, nice flowers.
So we recommend this levada as one of the most exotic in Madeira.
