The Clock Museum

The "Nicolae Simache" Clock Museum, the only one of its kind in Romania and in Eastern Europe, a museum where you can admire a beautiful collection of old clocks and of musical boxes.

Reviewed By VasileAndrian - Bucharest, Romania

We've paid a visit to this small museum in Ploiesti, without knowing too much of it, and were suprised to find there a beautiful museum with a rich collection of clocks and watches from various historic periods, some of them owned in the past by famous Romanian kings, writers, poets... The curators did a great work in beautifully organising the exhibits, and mixing-in some pieces of modern technology (a touch-screen display with information on the founder - prof. Simache, the building and the exhibits, and a sliding display that reproduces the sounds of various music machines exhibited behind it). Add to this the beautiful villa that hosts the museum (the former house of the beginning of the 20th century businessman and Ploiesti prefect Elefterescu), and you will get a wonderful place to spend an hour or two.

Ion Luca Caragiale Museum

Reviewed By Sophia S - Island of Hawaii, Hawaii

I have seen it recently and was on my list as I'm a fan of Ion Luca Caragiale. Still, I would choose a bigger building where everything should be capitalised better. But it's a good start; there are many interesting items there, maybe they'll even develop it in the future with new items. The building is old and nice and the price is more than ok. So I recommend it for literature ad history lovers.

Cathedral of Ploiesti

Reviewed By Bboogg - Bucharest, Romania

I grew up with this churches in sight, and for a while my parents lived across the street. I have got married inside, ad I visited it repeatedly for various occasions. If you are used with an Orthodox church, it is nothing special about it. If you have no idee how an Orthodox church looks like, it might be a very good idea to visit it if you are in the city.
Built in early XIXth century, it was reconstructed in 1840-1841, using the money of the local community (the multicultural Orthodox neighborhood included romanian ethnics, along with Bulgarians, Greeks and Serbians - alll contributed to the rebuilding the church).
The future Cathedral received a new 55m tower bell in the first part of XXth century (they finished building it in 1939), as a memorial for 1st WW soldiers. The new building used to be one of the main landmarks of the prosperous Ploiești, former capital of European (and worldwide) oil industry. It survived almost untouched to the 2nd WW, while Ploiești was heavy bombed (by Russians, Americans, and later by Germans). Remember that here took place the well-known Tidal-Wave, the most important air battle of the American air-force in Europe.
Despite being quite high, nowadays the Cathedral is not so visible as it used to be in the mid-XXth century, since in early 1960s the communist regime choose to partly obturate its view with a 8 flats (ground floor + 7 more) building. Therefore, seen from South, one can see only the peak of the bell-fry.
If willing to visit an older church (XVIIth century), one may go to Biserica Domnească, in the Mihai Bravu neighborhood.

What I liked most about this highly intense one-hour experience is the fact that it challenges you on so many levels that you actually come to take it seriously in less than 5 minutes. As a team of three, belonging to different age groups, we were faced to lots of unpredictable situations that aimed at a wide variety of skills: logic, creativity, handiness, the ability to communicate efficiently to others, the spirit of initiative, working under pressure and so on. (For instance, the number of tools we started the game with were limited, so we had to share them).
Perhaps that is why I personally felt teleported on a real pirate ship for a while, although I must say it was quite a fancy ship....I'm pretty sure the organisers' enthusiasm played its part, as they were constantly following our scenario and motivated us to avoid the slavery.
Another thing that I appreciated regarding them is that once we ran out of time, we received a thorough feedback on our performance, were told how other people reacted to the same tasks and how they should actually be approached. All in all, it's a good lesson taught in a very catchy manner.
Also, if you like playing board games you'll definitely like it.

Escape Republik

Reviewed By dana d - Ploiesti, Romania

When we got there they showed us a presentation of the room "We are legion". This room was amazing. Because of the design you really had the impression you were in kacker's office and you had to find the clues everywhere. Was about a hacker and we had to send a message to the world. We liked this room so much that we decided to escape from "Zodiac" also. This one was very misteryous and the game was linear and at each step there were diffrent clues and puzzles. Great rooms! ! ! Cool people. We had a blast visiting Escape Republik from Ploiesti.
