Small World Park

Reviewed By ricardofogel - Walnut Grove, California

A few years ago, Small World Park hosted a community barbecue as well as invited paramedics, the police department, swat teams, and disaster relief organizations to provide safety information and share the many duties each organization performs on a daily basis. They also have a train you can ride around the entire park. My son was fascinated with the swat team. He was able to meet the captain, shook his hand, and put on the teams riot gear including the hand held shield. They also gave the children stickers that look like badges. The food was free as well as the park rides. My son was 10 years old at the time and was almost a little to big for the rides. I would recommend children under the age of 10 to get on the rides at this park. However, there is a jungle gym in the main park and plenty of room for a child 10 and over to enjoy. We had a great time and I think you will too. It was $6 entrance fee for 15 years and up. $3 for children 14 years and under, and Seniors 55 years and older. My son is 13 years old now and we visited the park in 2014 but, I couldn't put the actual date because the program selection didn't go back that far.

Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve

One of the visitors centers was closed for construction, the other one was cute but super small. The walk to the cemetery was long. Off to the mine for the tour. Little table for the kids to do some activity books to become Jr rangers. The mine tour was under construction (would have been nice to know in advance) so we geared up with hard hats and flashlights to walk about 50 yards in to cave, then turn around and head back out....a little disappointing.

Mount Diablo State Park

Offers vast views from its summit.

Reviewed By WIJourney - Madison, WI

We made the trip out to Mount Diablo because we were told it offered some spectacular views from its 3900 foot summit. It was a picturesque drive that was only challenged by the numerous bicyclists (we were there on a Sunday afternoon). From what we could gather, the bike riders have a full-lane right-of-way both up and down the mountain. If you happen to cross over the center line when overtaking a cyclist going up hill when a rider is coming down the hill, prepare yourself for vocal abuse from the downhill rider. The view from the summit is quite stunning but be prepared to have the view of San Francisco/Golden Gate Bridge to be hazy at best unless you are there early in the morning.

Great tour and a beautiful day in the Napa and Sonoma. Our driver Bogdan was terrific, turned out to be very attentive, knowledgable and determined that we all had an enjoyable experience. He called us few days prior to the tour, made suggestions and was open to anything we wanted to do. The car was a brand new luxurious Mercedes SUV with three seats rows and plenty of space.
I would recommend the guy for a great carefree day in Wine Country to my family and friends. By the way, he even speaks German!

Todos Santos Plaza

The place has gone through lots of renovations and upgrades. The latest is the best with signs and lights. They have farmers market every week, some small concerts, and there's lots of lawn for kids to play around. They have fenced the area in now that kids don't wonder off too easily. It's located in the center of Concord surrounded by many restaurants, stores, fire station, banks, movie theater, hotels and residential areas. It is a place with diverse amount of people come to visit or go to. At night they light the trees and make the place a warm place to go. Nearby is BART station walking distance away. Bus is also available and taxi cabs as well.

Pittsburg Delta View Golf Course

This public 18-hole, par 72 course stretches 6,330 yards from the championship tees with a U.S.G.A. rating of 71.40 and slope of 130.

Reviewed By fiddle_man - Eugene, Or

As an intermediate golfer I found this course difficult with a huge number of lost balls, sloped narrow fairways, lots of brown ugly areas, dry water features, and very windy. You really need to play this course several times to know how to avoid problems. There is a drought here so that's part of what's going on. The greens are unpredictable and often slow as others have remarked. Would not come back.

Contra Loma Regional Park

Reviewed By epbkm - Antioch, California

We love this park!! It is a great place to escape the suburban sprawl, and breathe in the outdoors. Lot of hikes, both easy (around the lake) to more challenging (up in the back hills). The lake has a large sand entry pool attached, which is great for the kiddos. What is nice is you can bring a picnic lunch with you.

It does cost to park inside the park, but if you want to just go for a walk/hike, you can park outside of the park for free (James Donlon by the baseball diamonds, or just outside the entrance - but make sure you leave nothing in your vehicle...it is known for break ends). The hiking is dog friendly...please keep them on a leash...but beware of rattlesnakes when the weather turns warm!! Yes, I have seen them...ugh...but fortunately they don't want anything to do with you either.

Contra Costa Canal Trail

Reviewed By Jeffrey D - Starkville, Mississippi

I visit Walnut Creek regularly to do consulting work at the DOE Joint Genome Institute. Invariably they put me up at the Marriott Hotel and I've found that the perfect way to get my day started is an early 3.4 walk that mainly follows this canal trail. There are surprisingly few others -- mainly cyclists and joggers -- on weekday mornings. The peace and quiet makes it easy to commune with birds or the occasional turtle, and there are plenty of quiet yards and gardens to admire. The walking mode in Google Maps makes it easy to incorporate all the East Bay trails into your local travel and/or exercise plans.

We went to concert for my daughters 11th birthday to see her favorite music group! Everything went well.
Food is expensive but it's like going to an amusement park so it was similar to that.
General PARKING was FREE which is almost unheard of.
Concert started at 7 so we arrived to park at 5:30. Then you have to get in a line off to the side to wait until they open the gates. Well I noticed some people paid for VIP parking close to the entrance but they had to get in the same line we were in so some of those people had to walk all the way down close to the street to get in line because the line was sooooo long.
I was just glad I hadn't paid for VIP parking.
If we go another time we will bring a soft six pack size cooler with drinks because those are allowed.

This walkable 6,481-yard, par 72 golf course is located along the rolling hills of Antioch, featuring plenty of trees and scenic vistas.

Antioch's little secret is the amazing golf course and restaurant. This is an old municipal golf course that has been remodeled and upgraded. The course is fun and a good workout. The restaurant and banquet center are exceptional. If your just going for lunch after a round of golf, or planning a big dinner, this is the place. The food is outstanding and the service superb. A fully stocked bar is available.
