Hoping to visit before any rain came (we succeeded) we visited first thing in the morning and had a great time walking the trails and viewing all the various botanics. Once Parrot Jungle, I was trying to recall any childhood memories but could not. There were a few areas closed and the buildings at the entrance were all under renovation. We were not offered a map of the facility until we were about to leave. I don't think we really needed a map and believe we covered all the grounds that were opened that particular day. You may want to bring some mosquito repellent as there were a fair amount of mosquitoes in the more closed in tropical area. All in all a nice visit. Concession prices were reasonable by the way.

All though this is more a garden than a genuine botanical garden (most of the trees and plants did have labels so referring to botanical garden makes sense) the place is really nice and beautiful, quite large also. It has several large ponds and different sections (mangrove, madagaskar, tropical etc) and nice, easy walk around them. We also saw several huge iguanas wondering around, which is quite exotic for us coming from Northern Europe.
They offer guided tours as well, even in a small tram (I believe its called) which is very useful and nice for elderly people. We walked around the whole garden with a good map and instructions given at the entrance.
Garden has also small greenhouses and a butterfly house with hundreds of different kinds of butterflies flying around you. Very beautiful!

We had an amazing trip with Captain Scott Rose. We caught over 50 Peacocks and 5 other species of fish. Our Capt. Was extremely knowledgeable about fishing and other aquatic wildlife.
He was an awesome teacher and very patient. We did both Fly and Spin. Scott also knows a lot about fishing in Alaska and S. America.
He plans special trip to these locations. Most importantly he is friendly, a good listener, on time and you will have a ton of fun!
This was our first trip with Capt. Scott Rose. I’m sure we will be fishing with him again.

I visited Coral Reef Park today and was very impressed. Surrounded on all sides by residential neighborhoods, this green space is a treasure. This park has free admission and parking and is a huge multi-activity facility. There is a playground, lots of spacious fields for soccer, baseball, and football, as well as tennis and volleyball courts. There are walking paths with exercise equipment, and an area to launch canoes or kayaks. My favorite is the nature trail which starts through a beautiful preserved pineland forest and goes past a canal and over a bridge toward the end. This wild oasis is a haven for both native and exotic wildlife. As I walked the trail I observed animals such as butterflies (including the endangered Florida Atala), stinkbugs, spiders (golden silk & silver argiope), gray squirrels, & a few stray domestic cats, as well as an amazing variety of birds (blue jays, hawks, sparrows, mockingbirds, muscovy ducks, crested ducks, Asian Geese, Egyptian Geese, Mallard ducks, and white ibis) This is my favorite local park and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Although the mall has a lot of stores, it is too crowded and prices are above the standard for most South Florida malls. There are newer and less crowded malls nearby.

Just by chance, we happened to see that the iconic kosher bakery, Zak the Baker, has a booth at the Pinecrest Gardens Farmer’s Market, about a 30-40-minute drive from Miami Beach. It is open only on Sundays from 10am-2pm, which is sufficiently long enough to visit all the vendors’ booths and even talk with the owners without creating a back-up.
This is most fortunate because Zak the Baker, owned and operated by the renowned Zak Stern, is a bakery and café in the graffiti-splattered section of Miami called Wynwood that generally has a line sufficiently formidable to be braved only by the most diehard of foodies in search of some of the best breads and pastries in the world. The fact that they are all kosher is just an added benefit to those of us who care about that sort of thing.
So imagine our delight when we learned that, without any line at all, we could pick up sourdough bread in all Zak-the-Baker forms including walnut-and-cranberry and multigrain. The booth at Pinecrest also has crunchy baguettes and croissants and a wide variety of pastries, including chocolate-chip (really chocolate chunk) cookies; babka; a chewy, rich dark chocolate cookie with flakes of sea salt; and a chocolate-almond cookie made without flour.
The booth is run by Mr. Stern’s father, and nothing makes this father-of-the-baker happier than to talk about his famous kosher baker son.
Of course, Zak the Baker is not the only booth at the farmers’ marker. His is just the one that brought us there. Once on the site, we had a wonderful time picking and choosing marvelously fresh fruits and vegetables, smelling and sampling soaps and creams, and buying something called air-plants. One booth sold lovely stones and rocks, which made an irresistible gift for a grandson back home who is also a budding gemologist.

This is a great shopping g area. There is a wide variety of retail stores in a very beautiful setting. They also have a number of restaurants with outdoor seating so a good place to shop and have lunch.

Formerly known as Pinecrest Park, This park has no admission fee. There is lots of green space, a new recreation center, covered gazebo for picnicking out of the sun, playground, and field for baseball/football/soccer.

This is a nice place to shop and dine. There's a lake and several restaurants have outdoor seating, or a view of the lake. Parking is always a problem and the traffic flow, with a traffic circle is poor. Once you're in the center and you manage to park, it's a nice place.

This is a charming, small park right on US1 at 104 St. It is shady and peaceful serene. On holidays, sometimes, they have little special events here. There are a few picnic tables and lots of shade trees - and some birds in the pond. There is a lot of parking on the side - off of US1 on a side street.
