What to do and see in Phuket, Thailand: The Best Lookouts

May 28, 2021 Natalie Tallman

Thailand’s largest island is an international magnet for beach lovers and serious divers, who enthusiastically submerge themselves in the Andaman Sea. Blue lagoons and salmon sunsets make for a dream-like atmosphere, and indeed, a vacation here can feel a bit surreal. Watersports are the most popular activities, though once you’ve had enough sun there’s still plenty to explore at the island’s aquariums, gardens, and Buddhist temples.

Nai Harn Beach

This was our first visit to Phuket and The Nai Harn resort was highly recommended by our travel agent, Flight centre. We had a lovely & fantastic experience, the staff was very courteous and always willing to help and amazingly knew our names every time they met us. The facilities are excellent and location of resort is out of the world, right on the beach which is neat with nice waves and clear water. The buffet breakfast had plenty of choices and fabulous food quality. They even extended our stay for couple of hours to accomodate our flight. I will highly recommend this to anyone visiting Phuket. I really five star memorable experience.

Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong)

Reviewed By Wonga2Wonga

Great place to visit, did so twice. Photographer's paradise. Visited late afternoon, yes there were people, it is an active temple - but never crowded. Guess could be so at peak tourist-coaches hours. Sat evening a night market / food stalls were being set up in the grounds just as the sun was setting. Practically all Buddhist temples visited (and those we just drove past) would be worth a visit if they existed in isolation, due to the elaborate sculptural art that they are so rich in, plus they can look a little samey, but "Wat Chalong" stands out, so if you only visit one on Phuket island, make sure this is it.

If you have the time and will go there for one of the best sunsets on the island. If you are driving get there early as the big tourist buses go there as well so it gets more packed closer to sunset time. Enjoy !

Kao Khad Views Tower

Reviewed By P3579DRwendys - Norwich, United Kingdom

Khao Khad Viewpoint Tower We hired a moped during our stay in Panwa Beach and decided to explore the local area. We came across Khao Khad Viewpoint Tower and were amazed by the 360 degree view that it offered from one of the highest points in the area. There are 136 steps to reach the top so this isn’t for those who have difficulties with mobility and there is no lift. However, it is truly worth the effort. You can easily see Khao Khad Bay, Panwa Cape, the ‘Big Buddha’ and much more... We went early in the morning but I can imagine that the views would be equally beautiful at sunset. There is a bar serving food and drinks on the site which we also stopped at. In summary, a great place to experience the amazing views of the local area and would highly recommend.

Karon View Point

Reviewed By hooman1020 - Tehran, Iran

Karon viewpoint is a majestic panoramic viewpoint and one of the most popular landscapes in the country and the most frequented viewpoint in Phuket. It's located between Nai Harn and Kata Noi beaches and is one of the top recommended viewpoints in Phuket Island. From this viewpoint you can enjoy extensive views of Kata Noi, Kata Yai and Karon beaches and it looks out directly to the Andaman sea. Karon viewpoint is 9 minutes away from Kata beach, 13 minutes away from Karon beach and some 30 minutes from Patong beach by car. The route to the viewpoint is hilly and steep, and it's not recommended for beginners to go there by rental motorbike. But if you have some experience of "motorbike riding", it would be a remarkable experience going there by a 150 cc motorbike. This place is always crowded and there's a parking lot there for cars and motorbikes. Karon Viewpoint (formerly "Kata Viewpoint") or locally ‘Khao Saam Haad’ (Three Beaches Hill) is a staple for many tours itineraries. Going to the viewpoint is highly recommended!

After the Patong Beach madness, one would be surprised by the peaceful atmosphere of Panwa Cape. There isn't much of a beach like the western part of the Phuket Island but the view around here is marvellous. Crowds are much thinner and most of the traffic would be to and fro the Phuket Aquarium.
