One of the most historic cities in America, Philadelphia is an ideal place to spend a weekend - preferably a long one. The Philly PHLASH® Downtown Loop is a visitor-friendly public transit service managed by the Independence Visitor Center Corporation. The PHLASH provides access to stops located near must-see attractions, from Penn's Landing on the Delaware River Waterfront to the Please Touch Museum in Fairmount Park. At just $2 per ride, $5 for a One-Day Pass, or $7 for a Two-Day Pass, it's the most affordable way to get around. Children 4 & under, senior citizens, and SEPTA Pass holders always ride free.

There are many fun and interesting things to see and do in Philadelphia. For my third visit in June I had a list of new places to explore throughout the city. Some, such as the Museum of the American Revolution, were within easy walking distance of my hotel in the Old City section of Philadelphia. But others, such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, were not. The Philly PHLASH, a bus service that runs in a loop stopping every 15 minutes at 20 of the city’s attractions, made it easy to get to and from these destinations. There was a stop just a few blocks from my hotel. We first took the bus to the Reading Terminal stop and walked a few blocks to the Masonic Temple. Another day we took it to the Barnes Foundation stop. When we finished visiting the Barnes, we went out to the front of the building, got on the PHLASH and took it to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. At the end of that visit we got on the bus again, which dropped us off a few blocks from our hotel. Other stops on the route include the Liberty Bell center, Rodin Museum, Eastern State Penitentiary, Franklin Institute and Philadelphia Zoo. The buses are comfortable, clean and air conditioned. The fare is $2 per ride, $5 per day and $8 for a two-day pass; seniors ride for free. The bus runs from 10 am to 6 pm daily from May 1 to Sept. 9.

My husband and I didn’t know that there was a subway system in Philly (opps). When we found out we were extremely excited because we were going from Rittenhouse Square (Walnut Locust Station) to the baseball game (AT&T). The SEPTA employees were so friendly (we are from NYC area - which has a very different vibe) and helped us navigate the already easy navigable system. The cost for a bag of two tokens was $4 ($2 per token). They will soon be changing their system to cards (like the metrocard in nyc) but most stations use coins (except the station at the baseball field). Not to worry, you can easily exchange your tokens to the quick trip card at the vending kiosk and the SEPTA employees can always assist you.
