What to do and see in Paros, South Aegean: The Best Museums

March 29, 2022 Weston Hennigan

There are beaches for everyone on Paros—families, partiers, watersports enthusiasts, honeymooners. Anyone can find their perfect stretch of golden sand. The same breeze that rustles orange and pomegranate trees will power your kitesurfing or windsurfing session. In the capital city of Parikia, make sure to pay your respects at the Byzantine "church of 100 doors" (Panagia Ekatontapillani) and visit the seaside ruins of a medieval castle built from the marble remains of an ancient temple.

Folklore Art Museum Of Cycladic Civilization Benetos & Popi Skiadas.

Benetos Skiadas, an ordinary fisherman, managed to revive the Greek Tradition by creating his unique, functional and hand made miniatures using materials only from the Cycladic land. And all these without making any draft or using any scientific instruments. He created them only by using the divine gifts with which he was born; observation, perception, passion for creativity. The result is excellent and all the miniatures function in a perfect way. All his memories and personal experiences were strongly impressed on his mind and prompted him - with the help of his skillful hands– to revive the tradition and his dreams. The visitor can admire a all types of Greek ships such as warships, merchant ships and fishing boats which give you the impression that they are ready to sail. Gri-gri, drift-boats, steamships, sailing boats, triremes are all constructed with the traditional shipbuilding and are exact replicas of the genuine models. Open every day, 1 April - 30 Oct/ 10.00-14.00.

Archaeological Museum Parou

Not to be missed on your visit to Parikias. It doesn't take long to take a walk around this museum and it is well worth the 2 Euro entrance fee (only 1 if you're a senior!) The artifacts are nicely arranged and well marked with information. Almost everything is from this island and area. There are so many artifacts here that there isn't even room in the museum to house them all! Astounding.
