Bidwell Park

Reviewed By Judith D - Berkeley, California

People living in Chico are very luck to have this park, which stretches from near downtown way up Chico Creek. Our group of six explored the park early in the morning, going all the way up to Horseshoe Lake. We walked around the lake and did some birdwatching, then stopped at various places along the creek. What a great urban oasis.

Lake Oroville Marina

Reviewed By ItsMommaG - Orangevale, California

This is our second experience renting from Lake Oroville Marina in Lime Saddle Recreation Area. We rented a patio pontoon boat last week, the 44' one. It was great! It has a bathroom, complete with shower & hot water, lots of seating area, lots of room, food prep area with a sink, bbq & tools, and a top deck with a water slide.
The staff at Lake Oroville Marina are just fantastic. We have never experienced the level of genuine kindness & friendliness that the staff here show. John & Lori, the managers are really great people, definitely interested in making sure their guests have a great time. They know the lake & what it has to offer & share that knowledge, especially Sean (thanks for the recommendations!). They tell you all you need to know to get those giant boats out there safely & have a good time.
The marina is in great condition, no splintery docks or algae encrusted ramp here. At the time of our trip, the water level was 815 feet & I believe there were 3 ramps open. Everything is well maintained & fairly new. There is a small store where you can purchase a few boating/skiing accessories and a snack shack where you can purchase stuff like drinks, chips, etc. And of course there are gas pumps & a sewage pump out station.
Lake Oroville is beautiful. My family enjoyed fishing (we could even see the fish!), wake boarding, tubing, jet skiing and of course lots of swmming. The air temp on Aug. 1st was 93 and the water was 78 degrees; it was perfect! Even though it was Sunday, there weren't too many people crowded in the same place trying to boat, ski, etc.
We will definitely rent here again. After trying quite a few lake in Northern California, we have decided that Lake Oroville is our favorite!

Gold Nugget Museum

Reviewed By PeggyandMani - Magalia, California

This museum has collected artifacts and memorabilia from the local area which had a large logging population 100 years ago, and was indirectly involved in the gold rush with our own gold nugget. The museum also has special days where there are live demonstrations of the way people lived in the past. Well worth a visit.

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Tours & Tastings

There’s a lot going on at Sierra Nevada. If you want to see it all, we’ll pull back the curtains for you. We’ve designed several tours whose durations and content vary, so one of them is bound to fulfill your curiosity—or try them all! Common among them is a dose of history that underscores our role as a craft beer pioneer. Depending on the adventure, you’ll get your hands on our ingredients, peer into brewhouse vessels, stroll beneath fermenters, overlook our packaging facility, and take in our sea of solar panels. If you’re over 21 years old, a guided beer tasting of new and limited release beers, or sampling straight from the fermentation tanks just might be your next adventure. Choose your destiny. We can’t wait to show you around. Our tours fill up quickly! We highly recommend making your reservations online, in advance.

Paradise has needed a place like this for so long! Great place to meet friends to have a glass of wine or beer. Menu is good but it gets a little noisy when the place fills up.

Honey Run Covered Bridge

Reviewed By Gary L - Pleasant Hill, California

My daughter and I came in by way of the steep winding single lane road, which was a challenge. The bridge and area around it is delightful and beautiful. A couple of artists were painting, and a photo shoot with models was happening on the bridge. A $3 donation is requested, and the whole experience was well worth it.

The Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Foundation

If you are ever near Chico, CA driving through etc, stop at the Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Foundation Animal Sactuary. I was just stunned at the care that these animals received. The sanctuary was clean, well cared for and serene. The variety of animals, are lions, tigers and bears! Birds, marmosets, little cats, ocelets. deer and something called a Fishing Cat...looks like a ocelot to me...but hard to see...all of the animals are well cared for and are there as a last resort for life. The people are awesome! The caretakers, are so careful and loving of their charges! Yes...they are in caged areas...but I didn't see anything that would make me despair for them! This foundation is doing a great work! So check it out!

Butte Creek Ecological Preserve

Reviewed By cameraladyplus - Ukiah, CA

We visited for the first time on a Bird Watching experience. Much of the path we followed was along Butte Creek. Delightfully quiet area to observe and appreciate nature. Woodland area with a variety of trees and other fauna. Excellent variety of birds. Volcanic Buttes along some of the path. No restrooms.
