Deschutes River Trail

A popular 10.5-mile mountain biking trail in Oregon's Deschutes National Forest.

We stayed at a hotel adjacent to the trail and went out for a peaceful walk at sunset. The paved trail follows along the banks of the Deschutes River, so the scenery is great. It's suitable for wheelchairs and strollers and passes through Riverbend Park and Farewell Bend Park where there is a playground and some picnic shelters. We easily walked about 2 miles, crossing bridges over the river to go down both sides. There were a lot of people out walking or jogging and we saw people fishing, kayaking and paddle-boarding on the river. Waterfowl were abundant and didn't seem bothered by the company. The Mill District shopping area is right next to the trail; it would make a fun date night to have dinner at one of the restaurants there and then take a walk along the river.

McKenzie River Trail

Reviewed By brucemV5718CV - Central Point, United States

We hiked the 4-mile+ round trip from the trailhead to the blue pool in about one hour and 5 minutes each way. Not bad for age 70 or so with no recent hiking experience. The first third of the trail is nice and easy along the river, the next third starts to get a bit rough and climbs a bit and the last third is definitely rough and climbs over a large basalt formation with lots of twists and turns, rock outcroppings narrow passages and fewer river views. The pool itself is beautiful and well worth the hike but don't expect to cool your feet in the (very cold) water unless you're game for another 40 minutes to hike across and down to the pool. Lots of foot traffic on this popular and well known trail so I was surprised to see a number of trail bikers along the way. Mostly they were walking their bikes because of the rough and narrow trail but one large group of 6-8 was riding fast near the bottom and almost knocked my wife off the trail because she did not hear them coming. Question whether trail bikes should be allowed on this section of the trail because there are so many hikers and the users range from children to seniors.

Easyclimb Trailhead

The EasyCLIMB loop is squeezed into a wooded verge between Herman Creek Cove and Government Cove at the east end of Cascade Locks. The trails are built for mountain bikes (CLIMB = Cascade Locks International Mountain Bike) and hiking. You can hike from here along the white alder-shaded breakwater that separates Herman Creek Cove from the Columbia River.

Willamette River bike trail

A six-mile bike trail along the Willamette River.

Reviewed By Expedition601587

Simply the best urban bikeway in Oregon and that is some pretty tough competition. Once the Riverwalk is done, both sides of the river will be connected with this path. Drops you right into downtown Eugene or all the way out to Doris Ranch.
