Mortimers Wines Cellar Door

Former Canterbury Bankstown Bulldog Peter Mortimer, his wife Julie and their five sons - Michael, James, Tim, Daniel and Robbie planted Chestnut Garth vineyard in 1996.The original Old March Schoolhouse, located in front of our vineyard, was puchased in 2007 and has worked perfectly for us as our Cellar Door. Open weekends from 11 - 5 pm we do wine tastings, serve hot soup in winter by the open fire, as well as ploughmans platters, coffee and homemade cakes. Located just 4 kms from the northern distributor.

We visited the winery late one afternoon and were the sole tasters, bringing Peter in from the picking in the paddocks. He provided 9 wines to taste and was about the most relaxed and informative cellar door practitioner we have come across. The wines were excellent and the history of how Peter started from scratch to where he is today was inspiring. Reminiscing about his Rugby league career was an added bonus...

Small Acres Cyder

Small Acres Cyder are the first and sole producers of locally grown, locally made cider in the Central West, NSW Australia. We produce a range of ciders made with the fresh juice of cider apples and drawing on traditional methods of authentic cider production. The results are for everyone to enjoy with a number of award winning ciders and perrys. The inspiration for Small Acres Cyder came from our founders not being able to find a choice of premium ciders in Australia. Gail Kendell grew up in the UK and used to drink traditional cider made from cider apples, and frustrated with not having a similar choice in Australia, set about making her own. Since then Small Acres Cyder has achieved great success with the simple formula of great quality ciders made with passion from locally grown apples and pears. Leading the Australian craft cider market we have won more than 130 industry awards including Most Successful Small Producer 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Nick, Jannene and their crew ran a very informative apple cider making course with tasting as part of Good Food week. We loved it, and the award winning ciders were fantastic to end with.

On a beautiful winter’s day we visited Rowlee Wines on a quest for the divine Arneis. We had a 1pm booking for tasting, and the awesome Natasha welcomed us to the cellar door. It’s a great spot to sample the wines: a modern, open room with well-spaced tables, a wood-burning fire, and views out over the vineyard. Sparkling clean glasses were lined up ready for our tasting. All Covid protocols were in place. We have bought wine from Rowlee before, and we were hoping to try and buy the new vintage Arneis. Natasha is very knowledgeable about all the wines, and we ended up joining the wine club, and coming away with a case of the Arneis, as well as some beautiful Fumé Blanc and Pinot Gris. This cellar door is a relaxing, peaceful place in the heart of Orange’s wine growing district. A visit is highly recommended.

My partner and I booked a wine tasting experience here recently. Having been to wineries in the hunter valley, Mudgee and other highly rated cellar doors in Orange, this was undoubtably our favourite. The wines, spectacular. Every single wine was delicious. The service, unbeatable. They are happy to accomodate your interests and taste buds without the extra price tag unlike many other places. They are extremely knowledgeable re the wines, and are happy to share this with you, without it being too overwhelming. YOU MUST ENJOY A PICNIC. The picnic set up was also extremely delicious. We were supplied with everything we needed which was above and beyond what we expected. But nothing compares to the intimate experience of enjoying it privately in the views with the ultimate view of Orange. On your next visit, you would truly be missing out if you did not experience all this cellar door has to offer.

Word of Mouth

Was driving through the area and decided to pop in for a wine tasting. Deb was very accommodating, friendly and gave us some great insight in to their amazing wines. The area is gorgeous as was the cottage style area for tasting. Beautifully decorated and super cosy indoors it had such a nice homey feel. We chose to sit outside in the sunshine which was also a lovely area, provided with hats for the sun and blankets for the cooler afternoon temperatures. We were given a yummy selection of cheeses and dips/spreads to accompany the beautiful wines. You could certainly lose track of time sitting in the sun sipping wine and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The friendly dog and fluffy sheep also make for great company. Would certainly recommend a vist for anyone in the area! We will be back again for sure.

Montoro Wines

Reviewed By Sullivan87m - Sydney, Australia

We had no plan to visit Montoro but we drove by on the way to Rowlee. Suffice to say Rowlee was incredibly underwhelming so we had our tasting and decided to head into Montoro. A beautiful, boutique, almost “storage cage” venue where the welcoming couldn’t have been more friendly - Bailey the border collie is worth the visit alone! Bob, the owner (go on a Sunday!) took us through a unique range starting with a white Shiraz (the only of its kind) which was a gem. The tasting ended with ‘Wicked’ - it’s everything you want. Do yourself a favour: go to Montoro, have a cuddle with Bailey and enjoy some of the best reds on offer. Just brilliant. Thank you for having us.
