A truly beautiful temple. The Gardens are so lovely with the autumn colours.
The temple building is superb. It has a bark roof that is built with incredible detail. The huge cedar timbers used and the intricate detailing make this a very beautiful building
Lovely large carp in several ponds.
Not to many stairs
500yen for adults and 300yen for children
Free parking.

"Come and see some interesting rock formations" wasn't exactly the best tag line, but the formations really wre interesting and we had a good time on this cruise.
Fifty minutes out on the water, long enough to go around the closest headland, go slowly past the cliffs and then steam back into the fishing port. Since the water is the centre of Obama's existence, it seemed the right thing to do, so we paid our money (in the Fisherman's Market across the road), watched people fishing from the quay while we waited for the next departure and then boarded along with about 40 other people.
Good, stable cruise outwards. A bit windy when we left the shelter of the harbour. Almost immediately, the engine slowed and we could see the caves and rock formations on our right inside. The commentator explained the associated geology and folklore; we just enjoyed the views and the breaking of the waves. After we had seen everything of interest, rhe boat headed straight back to port. We wished it had gone a little more slowly on the way back.
Nice ride; not too expensive; got us close to the water.

東大寺二月堂の本尊にお供えする「お香水」を送る神事で有名な寺院で、神事は奈良時代から続いています。他にも竹を送る寺院とか・・・お水取りの神事は一人東大寺二月堂だけで成り立っているものではなくて、周辺の寺院の協力のもとで毎年運営されています。神体山を借景にした若狭随一の木造本堂がまさに絶景！北門でもある仁王門には木造の金剛力士像が安置されています。この門も本堂同様、国の重文指定を受けています。

鳳凰が飛来してこの地に羽を落としたと云う伝説に因んで羽賀寺と名付けられたそうです。応仁の乱を避けて京都から若狭に運び込まれたのが木造の十一面観世音菩薩立像です。本堂と共にこの観音像も重文指定を受けています。行基が７１６年に開山したと伝わる古寺ですが、この仏像は彩色がはっきりと残っている素晴らしいものでした。

ここは海上安全、海幸大魚の守護神として崇敬を集めています。上社の若狭彦神社と合わせて「若狭一宮」と呼ばれ、二つの神社共に境内に本殿・神門・随神門の３つの建物が一直線上に配置されている同じ造りの神社です。境内には千年杉と云う神樹もあることより、その歴史の古いことは請け合いの神社です。

堂宇や仏像もさることながら、この寺院は紅葉が素晴らしい。国指定名勝の庭園を有する寺院で花の名所として知られています。春は五色椿、つつじ、初夏は新緑、秋は紅葉の枯山水。素晴らしい庭園ではありますが、余りにも人工的に作り上げた大きな箱庭って感じがして・・・。ここの本尊は重文の木造阿弥陀如来坐像です。

京都にも地方にも、古い昔の面影とかを色濃く残すような街並みが必ずあるものですが、京町家同様、私は余り好きではありません。実家が築後１７０年以上も前の建物だったので何かにつけ不便で非効率的で田舎の民家には良い思い出はありません。ここも明治期の建物群らしいが、「そうなのか」と云う程度の印象でした。これが「良い」と云う人も当然沢山おられるだろうから、個人の好みには注文は付けませんが・・。

個別には３３か所とも何等かで参拝はしていますが、霊場としてまとめて遍路するのは初めてです。今年は思い立ったのでこの霊場会のお遍路をすることにしました。専用の納経帳もあります。確か中山寺とか那谷寺とかで購入出来るはずです。ここは山号を岩屋山と云う高野山真言宗寺院で、千手観音菩薩がご本尊です。７１９年に行基が開いて、後に空海が再興したと伝わる名刹です。１２００年以上の縁起を誇る寺院であり素朴な本堂の佇まいが印象深いお寺でした。現在の堂宇は鎌倉時代の作と銘が発見されています。ご本尊は平安時代中期のものらしい。無休、入山４００円。

平成２６年７月に資料館から博物館にグレードアップしてリニューアルオープンしました。文化が息づく若狭地区の仏像や祭りなどの文化と育てた若狭庶民の歴史を膨大な資料で簡易に紹介していました。若狭地区の情報拠点としてここで事前に歴史文化観光の知識を得てから観光するといいでしょう。
