Fleet Air Arm Museum

Reviewed By Douglas A - Zurich

The fleet air Arm museum exceeded my expectations but it's still a far cry from the impressive flight museums around the world.
Of course they are focused on Australia's Navy flight operations history, starting with fixed wing and moving towards rotary as Australia stopped sailing aircraft carriers.
The museum has a couple of WWI aircraft, one or two WWII aircraft, for our five post war early jet era aircraft like vampire fighters, A4s, then a good selection of helicopters. For the kids there are a couple.
There's also a small art exhibition and a collection of other random artifacts and personal stories.
There's a store as well with generic Navy gear and toy planes.
You can play with a simple helicopter simulator and climb into some deconstructed cockpits for the kids.
So I would go out of your way to visit but if you're in the neighbourhood with some time to kill, it's worthwhile for $10.

Shoalhaven Zoo

Reviewed By jodie_amanda - Shellharbour, Australia

Today my family and I visited Shoalhaven Zoo for the first time, and by the end of our visit we were so impressed that we upgraded our tickets to annual passes (which are great value!).
The staff are really friendly and helpful. The animals are well kept and many of free to roam large enclosures and interaction is encouraged between visitors with the friendlier animals. Animal feed is for sale at the entrance or in the farm yard for $2 per bag. Both of our girls (aged 3 and 20 months) absolutely loved feeding and patting the animals and even got to hold and cuddle a bunny.
The shows were very informative and fun for all ages, from the little ones to adults.
Views of the Shoalhaven River are absolutely gorgeous, and provided a nice breeze on a hot day like today.
There are photo opportunities provided by the zoo for a mere $10 per animal. My 3 year old wanted to have her photo taken with a huge snake, and it turned out great. Be sure to have cash on you when getting the photos taken, as they don’t accept eftpos.
We tried out the kiosk for lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices and delicious food.
We are all very much looking forward to returning in the very near future now that we have annual passes!

Meroogal

A few blocks from the town centre of Nowra on NSW’s south coast, Meroogal is a rare and precious gem. Barely changed since it was built in the 1880s, the distinctive ‘Carpenter Gothic’ house has been loved and maintained by four generations of Thorburn and Macgregor women through the pleasures and labours of daily life. The house still overflows with their belongings – favourite books and ornaments, furniture, photographs, diaries and journals, newspaper clippings, receipts and recipes, appliances and clothes – and the garden, although reduced from its original size, still provides fruits and fresh produce that hint at their self-sufficiency and hospitality. Meroogal invites us into their lives, and through their private histories draws us into a shared and living past. You can only visit the house in a guided tour, which lasts for about an hour starting at 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Meet at the Visitor Centre in the backyard. We are open extra days during NSW school holidays.

Hop Dog Beer Works

Reviewed By Tony W - Sydney

Hopdog is a great little craft micro brewery in Nowra offering a number of interesting beers for both tasting (charge applicable) and to purchase. A little more expensive than your normal bottle shop offering but worth tracking down. When looking for the brewery its off the Princes Highway on a service road, next to Bunnings Warehouse.
