Whether you have one day or weeks in Whangarei, this is the single best day tour available. It is like nothing else we have done in New Zealand, and we’ve been here for months. It is not a performance, it is a personal invitation into the Harding family’s home where you experience an intimate view of the culture, history and cuisine of the Northland Maori people. They are the loveliest people, and we discussed politics, history, culture and exchanged funny stories. When they say you leave as family they are not exaggerating. We did the whole day tour and it was worth every minute and every penny. Our son loved listening to the stories just as much as we did, but he also played happily with their children. We will never forget it and can’t recommend it enough.

This full day, catered tour takes you to one of the quiet, hidden gems of Tai Tokerau (Northland). Definitely special and well off the beaten track and general tourist route! Leave the hustle and bustle that is summertime in the Bay of Islands behind and embark on an authentic New Zealand adventure. Your guide for the day has spent 15 years lecturing NZ’s ecology, natural and social history as well as guiding and sharing some of the rare encounters only to be found in the Far North’s treasure trove of experiences. With a bit of “something for everyone” this trip combines; A truly scenic drive along the North East coast layered with stories and history An easy going coastal walk (approximately 45 mins each way) An interesting archaeological talk with the opportunity to view and taste wild indigenous foods Time to relax on the beach, swim and experience some of New Zealand’s rare and endemic wildlife A delicious picnic lunch using the best locally available produce

Very nice day trip. Very scenic and well worth a visit. The tour was value for money and very enjoyable. Derek our driver was friendly and able to tell us some of the history of the area. It is priceless having a local guide as they are able to point out other places that may be of interest during your stay and also know the best places to stop for refreshments.

My daughter organised this trip for my Christmas present. We booked the tour at the last minute to make the most of the weather and other activities we wanted to do in the north. We were well accommodated, our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and patient. We really appreciated that the tour went ahead given the current climate for tourism. A great variety of venues on this tour.

Everything was great! We considered ourselves fortunate that there were only 13 passengers (4 crew) on our two hour Sundowner sail since that perhaps made it more intimate. The best fun was in climbing up the rigging and helping with the sails, encouraged by enthusiastic crew. So nice to be out on the water on such a splendid, beautiful and historic vessel.
