Reptile House De Aarde Breda

Reservation is necessary (webiste) Reptielenhuis de Aarde is the first official zoo of Breda. This mini-zoo is specialised in holding and caring for reptiles. The first impression of this miniature zoo is that everything is very clean and child friendly. Children get the chance to pet or even hold some animals, also every question will be answered by the animal carer. The enclosures are bigger than you normally see in a zoo. Every animal has its own habitat and temperature, that is how we ensure that every animals wellbeing is as high as possible. Curious..? Come see the zoo in Breda and discover the world of reptiles!

A very well maintained reptile house with many snakes, lizards and turtles. Not the biggest one but enough for me to spend 90 minutes. Feeding giant turtles with salad was my highlight. The place is spotless clean, without bad odours, the size of enclosures is sufficient for most animals and the staff is friendly. The place is a bit too far away to walk from Breda centre but with the local busses you can reach the place in 15 minutes.

Beekse Bergen Safari Park

Just before the travel was restricted we had a week's stay at Safari Resort. All facilities in a cottage, cooking and fridge. There are 2 restaurants on site pizza and main restaurant. Can order there a take away. We staied next to the lions, had an afternoon ROAR! All cottages are securely separated from the beasts, was nice to watch them "hunting" the foods that keepers left 3 times a week.. Facilities also include a swimming pool, inside and outside kid's playroom, several at the Zoo too. Safary has several restairants/tea rooms. We did not like Dutch cuisine, so after a couple of attempts at a quick food stalls concentrated on home cooking or restaurants. Very popular with our little one was "giraffe feeding", that was prescious. Our 2 year old grandson was too shy to ask for more salad leaves, but once he got them was rinning to the cages to feed Giraffs again! That was possibly the best memory we have now. We also had a bus guided tour, and the guide was kindly speaking English with our party, so we didn;t miss anything. We had witnessed quite a dramatic Camel fight... Though please do not try to see everything in one day, that was very tiresome...

Dierenrijk

Reviewed By PaulD561 - Coningsby, United Kingdom

What a gem of a Zoo. Really friendly staff who also speak English which is brilliant when you speak little to no Dutch. Animals all look happy and healthy and you can get really close to them as there are plenty of viewing areas for each enclosure. Seeing the Elephants with their baby was great but the highlight was the Brown Bears when they came up to the window and just sat there looking back at us. Highly recommended Dierenrijk.

Klein Costa Rica

Reviewed By AncoM3 - Aberdeen, United Kingdom

Klein Costa Rica is located in the middle of nowhere. So, when you find something special it is a big surprise. The butterfly garden is nice with beautiful butterflies, a nursery and one iguana. The second part is spectacular with a fantastic pond and a large variety of colourful and large fish, nice birds and a giant iguana. The last one we spotted on the walking bridge. We didn’t”t spend a long time (1 hour max) but the visit was well worth it.

After reading reviews saying it's like someones private collection in a back garden I was a bit hesitant to visit. But due to another zoo being exceptionally bad I decided to give BestZoo a shot...and im very glad I did! BestZoo is everything I like in a zoo, quality over quantity. The stars for me are the only Common Kingfishers in Europe in captivity and they're a breeding pair, the four Sri Lankan Leopard Cubs, and the Black Jaguars. The Keepers were very friendly and talkative. Will definetly go again next time i'm passing by. It's also a good price to get in! The parking is a large parking area next to electric pylons a couple hundred metres down the road on the other side of the village and is 2 EUR. This is paid by coins going into the exit barrier.
