What to do and see in New York, United States: The Best Movie & TV Tours

August 17, 2021 Karren Gelb

New York State has it all – booming metropolises, majestic waterfalls, mountains, wine country, chicken wings. Yes, NYC is a magnet for tourists, but an exploration of the rest of the state can be equally thrilling. The Finger Lakes Wine Region is a vision of serene waters, quaint B&Bs, and pretty vineyards. Movie buffs will love Rochester, home of the George Eastman House and one of the world’s most comprehensive film archives. On your way to Niagara Falls, stop in Buffalo to fuel up on spicy wings.

I'm not one to get spooked easily or a firm believer of the spirits, but there were some pretty spooky parts. Alyssa, our tour guide, was great and extraordinarily knowledgeable about the history of Greenwich Village. As a new local to the city, it was the perfect combination of a history lesson and fascinating ghost stories that my partner and I were looking for. For me, it's especially surreal to know that I have passed by the house that John Wilks Booth stayed the night before he went on to make history without even knowing it dozen of times before I went on this tour. I would recommend it to anyone that likes any sort of dark history or paranormal activities.

Took a pedicab tour through Central Park with Ian who has a red bike. He is a history major and had lots to tell us with a very congenial personality! He was able to take us through the south end of the park highlighting actual history along with showing us many areas where movies were shot. Ian also showed us pictures of the skyline before it was developed and then tell us what famous people lived where and how much apartments cost them. He has a plethora of knowledge and it was all very fascinating. There are many of these pedicabs and I was thrilled we got Ian!! Highly recommend. He does walking tours mostly and we look forward to returning when it’s warmer to join him!

We absolutely loved our private Sopranos Tour! Marc was super informative. The only thing missing is the opening music while going through the Lincoln Tunnel. We learned a lot about where the characters are now. Saw a lot of the filming sites. Bada bing was smaller than it seemed on Tv but still the Bada bing! If you go in this tour when you come back to the city go to Bardough on 46th. The guy who plays Dick Barone on the show owns this bar and her happened to be there and we got to make pictures and chat with him. fun time for people who love this series!
