What to do and see in New York, United States: The Best Farms

February 8, 2022 Hector Krause

New York State has it all – booming metropolises, majestic waterfalls, mountains, wine country, chicken wings. Yes, NYC is a magnet for tourists, but an exploration of the rest of the state can be equally thrilling. The Finger Lakes Wine Region is a vision of serene waters, quaint B&Bs, and pretty vineyards. Movie buffs will love Rochester, home of the George Eastman House and one of the world’s most comprehensive film archives. On your way to Niagara Falls, stop in Buffalo to fuel up on spicy wings.

We took friends from Singapore that hadn't had many farm experiences. This is fun. It doesn't take long. You pay for the milk to feed the goats by the honor system. We even used our credit card! The smiles and the fun we had in 20 minutes will stay with me for life. The goats are clean and friendly. This was a "10" of an experience. I would love to go back!

Booked The Long Neck Inn with a group of friends and had a wonderful time. It was a unique experience to stay at an old zoo turned hotel. The service was excellent. We enjoyed the hot tub, fire pit and walking our dog (a few rooms are pet friendly) on the property.

The Farmers' Museum

Living history museum re-creates 19th-century rural life, complete with craftspeople demonstrating rural trades and skills in the restored buildings of an 1845 village.

Reviewed By davidwL3325MW

We stop here even when we don't have kids or grandchildren with us. The museum and the 1840's village take you back to when upstate New York was rural and almost entirely agricultural. The re-enactors are knowledgeable and friendly, as are the sheep, goats, poultry, swine, cattle, and horses. Well, the goats are not that knowledgeable. $10.50 for senior citizens.

Our guide was a guy that had only been there a few months he said, but he was awesome. We loved meeting all the animals and hearing of their journeys. I am hoping this trip may be the push my boyfriend needed to become vegan. So peaceful and such a happy place.....truly happy animals here! I only wish they had a small vegan cafe to show people how tasty vegan food can be.

A family-owned and operated fruit farm located in New York's beautiful Hudson Valley. The farmstand is open daily offering seasonal produce, fresh-pressed apple cider, and more. Pick-your-own apples and pumpkins is offered on weekends in September and October. Pick-your-own strawberries is offered on select days in June.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this Orchard with lots of apples, delicious honey crisp, Gala, golden delicious, Ida red varieties, didnt find any Macintosh left. Go down the hill towards the back to find the Golden delicious. After apple picking, you can walk to the Kettleborough ciderhouse and sample at least 5 different types of Hard cider. They have a real pretty spot with seating overlooking the orchards and mountainside, catch a sunset, just beautiful.
