Summit Lake State Park

Reviewed By bikeOn1991 - Carmel, United States

We have visited Summit Lake 3 times in the last month. We did a Saturday evening moonlight paddle, a weekday kayak trip and attended a Saturday afternoon pavilion party and kayak excursion. We enjoyed every visit very much. There were several places suitable to easily put in our kayaks. We found the bathrooms by the Naturalist office clean and the grounds well maintained. There are a lot of geese and while they do leave behind a lot of droppings the park tries to minimize this by allowing a large beautiful border of wildflowers and native plants to grow around sections of the lake. The water was calm and clear and was lovely for kayaking. The boats are supposed to use idle speed only and it appeared those boats near us were abiding by that rule. We saw a lot of fishermen on the water. We drove through the campgrounds but did not spend the night. The two campground loops have very different sites and it would be worth a closer look to decide which loop you preferred and which loop suited your mode of camping.
