Recchia Vini

For over a hundred years the Recchia family have been mastering wine makers. For many generaons the family has been living in the heart of Valpolicella in the valley of Negrar. Wine making flows in their blood. Their love for the local terrior and its tradions makes their wines special. What makes a great wine? Knowledge of the land, the growing of grapes and the tradions of wine making are combined to make a great wine. The Recchia family has learnt to culvate the highest quality grapes, which is the most important thing in the art of wine making. They have chosen the best land, with the best soil types and posion for grape growing. They have then selected the best grape variees for the producon of the different types of wine. Then they decided on the best trellising support for the grapes. The process takes me but aer a hundred years the family has had had me to develop.

This was our 3rd and final wine tasting of the day, and probably one of the better ones to do in Negrar. We booked a 4pm tasting by phoning earlier in the day. The service was super friendly and welcoming. For €10 each, we got to sample 6 different wines. We had our tasting looking out over the valley towards Verona on a day where there wasn’t a cloud in the sky... it couldn’t have been a nicer view!

Giardino di Pojega

Next reopening: may, the 28th 2021! The Pojega Estate, was bought in 1649 by the Counts Rizzardi, living in Verona at the time. The gardens, commissioned in 1783 by Antonio Rizzardi to landscape architect Luigi Trezza, represent the last masterpiece of Italian gardens, known for its green amphitheatre and its spectacular perspectives. The surface is of 54000 sqm (13.3 acres): temple, theatre, walls, galleries and belvedere have been built transforming and bending trees, hedges and water into a phantasmagorical show machine.

Azienda Agricola Giuseppe Quintarelli

Wow what a treat! My wife and I have been on many wine tastings but none that tasted as good as Quintarelli wines. Well worth the 30 minute drive from Verona Italy or 2 1/2 hour drive from Florence. Francesco the third generation part owner gives a very informative and interesting tour. His mother and father that are still active in the business and live in a beautiful home connected to the winery. We thought the wines were excellent and when we went to Tuscany and mentioned this winery, several winemakers said they have the best red wines in all of Italy. Only suggestion would be to offer some meat and cheese during the tastings. Not sure I can wait very long to start drinking the bottles we brought back!
