Exceptional, diverse, and fresh book selection including many Nebraska authors and a variety of viewpoints and voices. Extraordinary in a town this size. Local wine, foods, as well as teas and coffees...I was amazed to find all of this behind a nondescript storefront. No matter your tastes, you will find something here.

Gibbons Honey Farm

Reviewed By Tigerman777

Being that I was planning on visiting Fort Robinson State Park, I wanted to find something unique nearby to try from Nebraska to take home. I also like supporting small businesses when possible. Wellll, I must say Gibbons Honey Farm is an AWESOME choice!!! When entering the store, I was greeted by Wayne and Julie, the owners and their daughter and grandson, all of whom were super nice. I learned the history of the farm and how Wayne, eventhough his family had a long legacy of beekeeping, had no interest in it as a young person. Years later, he changed his mind. Wayne took me in back and showed a bit about the process of honey producing and I saw a LOT of 55 gallon drums of honey. It was pretty cool to see the workings of the setup. He even let me try (Sidr, I think) honey from ( I think) Yemen, widely acclaimed as the best in the world. Boy oh boy was that gooood!!!! The flavor of that was out of this world. That’s expensive stuff, so I feel very privileged to have been given a taste. He doesn’t sell it, but an acquaintance/friend brought him some back after visiting the country. The product Gibbons sells is PHENOMENAL!!! Theirs has a fresh taste that’s nothing like store bought that has fillers in it. It’s pure, unadulterated honey. I was in heaven trying different samples. The honeys that I bought were, of course one quart of their pure honey, which is soo rich in flavor. I also bought some goldenrod honey, which adds a very slight pungent taste to the honey and dandelion honey, which has a more pungent flavor. I bought some also that have fruits in them: Raspberry Creme’ honey and my favorite, some Chokecherry Creme’ honey. Oooohhhh man, is this good stuff!!! I also checked out some of their other products, including different soaps, of which I bought one bar with honey and lavender. That smells wonderful!!! This place is great for guys, but I think the girls might like it even more. There are a good number of beauty products to buy. In conclusion, due to being treated very kindly by the owners Wayne and Julie, the great quality of their honey and the cleanliness of the store, I VERY highly recommend you support this very small business!!! I know I will come back if i visit the area again!!!! Thanks for reading. If you feel this review has helped you, it would be appreciated if you would tap the ???? button below. Thank you.

Broken Spoke Boutique

Located in Valentine, Nebraska—one of America's 100 Best Adventure Towns according to National Geographic—Broken Spoke Boutique is an adventure in and of itself. The boutique's building was originally constructed in 1915 as Nebraska State Bank and operated as such until the bank closed its doors in 1964. Over the next 50 years, as businesses came and went, so did the building's charm. Its beautifully crafted characteristics were covered up, including its tin tile ceiling, fir hardwood, and mosaic hexagon tile floor. Whitney Mayhew, a South Carolina native, moved to Valentine in 2016 and immediately recognized the town's charm. Inspired by Charleston's beauty and architectural allure, she saw potential in the building and began to expose the features that time and the community had forgotten. Throughout the remodel process, Whitney made sure to utilize many elements of early twentieth century design and made it a priority to emphasize the workmanship of the era.

I went in looking to replace my broken sunglasses & left with two pair. The lady working was very nice. She gave me a tour of the store, told me her favorite products & also about the owners of the store. She is obviously very proud to be part of this business. She also gave me recommendations on things going on around Valentine & some places to eat. Luckily (for my debit card) my husband & pooch were outside waiting for me so I picked up a couple more things & got out of there. Definitely could have spent some quality time in there

One of the Midwest's premier natural history museums, we are home to the world's largest complete mounted mammoth skeleton. Archie, our mascot in bronze out front, is based on this mammoth fossil. Touch his foot for good luck! Our newest exhibit, Cherish Nebraska opened in February 2019. It examines Nebraska past and present with digital interactives, collections displays, hands-on activities and a visible lab to watch our scientists at work. Other exhibits include Bizarre Beasts, Weapons Throughout Time, First People of the Plains, Paleontology, Geology, and the Hall of Nebraska wildlife. Our Marx Discovery Center (currently closed due to covid precautions) has tons of activities for kids, including a fossil dig pit, reading nook, discovery tables, dinosaurs, coloring sheets and more. Advance tickets available online.

I imagine some may not find this to be the flashiest museum in the USA, but it contains a wealth of unique exhibits, as well as some unique research focuses. As might be expected, it contains the best Nebraska geography and wildlife dioramas in the world. It contains a world-class woolly mammoth exhibit - possibly the world’s best (including the world’s largest mounted mammoth - “Archie”). And they just spent over $10m redoing just the 4th floor to focus on Great Plains ecology, climate change, geography, biology, zoology, archeology, etc. It’s very impressive.
