What to do and see in Naxos, South Aegean: The Best Wine Tours & Tastings

September 10, 2021 Brain Ambrose

A spot of white in the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea, the island of Naxos is a unique blend of ancient ruins and beach culture. The largest of the Cycladic Islands, Naxos is the childhood home of none other than Zeus, king of the gods. Upon arrival in Naxos, hike over a causeway to Palatia, where the Portara, a stone gateway to an ancient temple that no longer exists, stands alone, the symbol of the island. At sunset, the views of the island, and the sea beyond, are breathtaking.

Whoever called this a walk didn't walk the caldera hike. This is a tough 6 mile up and down over some significant hills. In some places, it is a bit dangerous, and definitely not suitable for children. Having said this, the views are spectacular and well worth the effort.

Me and my husband had a fabulous experience with this private tour!! Our guide Danai and our personal chauffeur John were absolutely professional, had huge knowledge about the highlights and created a unique travel experience for us! We went to the most famous spots in Santorini but we were also shown the secret hidden places which are not so touristic. Both could answer any question we had at any time and were super prepared. We were offered fresh cold beverages, a cool van and on top our guide Danai took several pictures of us :) Everything was flexible because our tour was tailor made. I highly recommend this tour to everyone who is looking for a five-star, unique tour to get to know the whole island of Santorini. Thank you so much Danai and John!!

We went with Dimitrios to multiple places in Oia, Imerovigli as well as somewhere close to our hotel. Our photographer was very patient, professional, knew where to find the most beautiful / best & quiet places (even on a busy day in oia) to have a lot of beautiful pictures. We received a ton of pictures from which we now can select 30 to optimize (difficult task - luxury problem). I highly recommend this tour, the fact it's a 4h tour total leaves enough time for pickup and to visit multiple locations, some tours are slightly cheaper but if there's only one or two hours available I don't see how a good result can be obtained (including driving-time etc).
