The Fernsteinsee with its crystal clear, blue water is a wonderful lake in the mountains of Tyrol, Austria. The castle hotel with restaurant offers an excellent stay, even for a short meal and a leisurely stroll when you are passing through. There are also campsites and hiking trails around the lake for hikes or walks. You can dive, swim or go boating. You can rent the boats. Swimming - as is often the case with mountain lakes - is only for very hard-boiled people. The water is very cold. A short stop with a meal in the restaurant and a walk is worthwhile. The landscape is picturesque. Even if the highway is heavily used. The Alps in the background, the lake and nature are simply unique. A detour of several kilometers on your trip is definitely worth it.
