Gouffre de l'Oeil Doux

Reviewed By Roedig - Stellenbosch, South Africa

This cliff and water pool are about two and half kilometers from St Pierre. It is an easy walk from the road and the round trip is about 2.5 kilometers. Take a picnic back pack. It would be better to walk anti clockwise as this way you will start high and be able to see the approach to the waters edge. The other way round you would miss the approach to the waters edge.

Domaine de Sainte Marthe

Reviewed By AFH1809 - Winslow, United Kingdom

As it was a very hot day we fancied a quick and easy excursion. This certainly fitted the bill. It was quite busy and rather than wait for a smaller boat, the 4 of us hired a 7-seater for 32 euros/hour, 5 euros more than a 5 seater. The boats are very easy to drive and are virtually noise-less. They have pull up canopies to protect from the sun. The route is a long winding loop through the marsh, with high reed banks. They have pictures of the wildlife around the route, but we saw only little egrets and ducks. Still a very pleasant sojourn, and very quick access from j27 of the A9 Narbonne centre. Service was jolly and helpful, with attempts at English after our attempts at French!

Visited Valras Plage when we were staying in Beziers; there is a very good bus service which runs between Beziers & Valras Plage daily and only costs one euro for a return journey! Whilst there is a lovely big beach at Valras the town itself was a little to 'rowdy' (??) for my liking. Would recommend it for families purely for the lovely beach

We were staying nearby so thought we'd have a look round the site. Not sure that we would have made the trip if we'd been staying further afield, but we would have missed out on some wonderful historical remains. The site is quite large and sprawls over the hilltop with great views in every direction, including over the Etang de Montardy. The remains of the settlements are clearly visible and there are a remarkable number of suberranean grain storage jars, which give a fascinating glimpse into life centuries ago. We're used to Roman remains, but these pre-dated those and the little museum, although a bit dated, had some excellent pieces, whose age astonished us. No gimics or audio guides, just straightforward guide boards and a map.

Merci Amandine.

Gruissan is definitely a must see... The tiny village is very typical and after visiting the old church, climbing to the Tour Barberousse is a must! The view from there is really stunning... Not only you will see the sea and the Beaches but also the saline displaying wonderful pink to red colors according to the state of water turning into salt... You will also discover the Clape mountain north of the village and the ponds on the west side. Watch out, they are really large ponds and should not be confused with the sea!
