The Botanical gardens cover a vast area and is sub-divided into different geographical influences. The major theme throughout is the dinosaur attractions which are extremely well done.
There is a wildlife area where the gardens are less formal, a lake and bird observation point, but the formal gardens are the main attraction.

I took the guided tour while spending a weekend in Naples. Jerry the guide was great about telling us the physical features of the house and the early history of Naples. What a colorful story -- recluses, renegades, rumrunners, and speculators played a big part in drawing attention to Naples's potential. The recorded oral histories are a bonus, and the garden is beautiful. This is a great way to spend an hour or two.

I had the honor of being a chaperone for 40 of my granddaughters 8th grade classmates. If you can plan your visit when a guide is available it will be worth it. Stuart was our guide and was excellent as he added a personal side to his narration as both of his parents were survivors of the death camps.
We must always honor the victims murdered during the holocaust and thank god for those that survived and lived to tell their stories and the truth!

CREW Land & Water Trust - Bird Rookery Swamp Trails

The Bird Rookery Swamp Trail officially opened in July 2011. The Bird Rookery Swamp Trail offer 12 miles of hiking and biking trails, including an 1800-ft. boardwalk with wheelchair accessibility. A 1/4-mile crushed shell path leads to an 1800-foot boardwalk, then the trails become ground level, sandy/grassy relatively flat berms with swamp on both sides. The trails are actually old tram roads used when the area was logged many years ago. Biking can be a challenge on the grassy/sandy trails, but quite rewarding. The maple-cypress swamp is home to alligators, otters, Florida panthers, bobcats, white-tailed deer and more. There is one port-o-potty at the beginning of the boardwalk and several benches along the trail within the first 1.5 miles. Beyond that there are no structures. Birders will delight in the abundance of songbirds that frequent the cypress trees along the boardwalk, as well as the many raptors and wading birds found along the trails. Barred owls are common and swallow-tailed kites frequent the area in summer.

We spent two hours at this fine museum, and were particularly impressed with the Olga Hirschhorn holdings that she donated to the museum. Also three very impressive Chihuly installations - this museum's Persian ceiling is one of the best. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Any art lover visiting the area should check it out.

My first time at Lowdermilk Beach. The parking area is just a few steps to the sand. Plenty of room to have your own piece of paradise. There is a snack bar nearby. You can see the Naples Pier to the south and the many beautiful high rises to the north. Good family beach as well as just having a place for alone time.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

What a serene and beautiful sanctuary. If a person is unable to walk the entire Boardwalk, I would encourage them to make sure they at least see Lettuce Lake. We watched the anhinga building a nest for their babies, saw a black-caped heron, and watched an alligator hunting fish (among other things). The roseate spoonbill are fast moving at times and can be difficult to capture on film. The anhinga are very entertaining and vocal. They hunt for fish under the water and it is fun to see them stick their heads up when you least expect it. If you bring children, please remind them to stay quiet so they do not scare away the wildlife and ruin the experience for others. You will want to use bug spray.

Fabulous place to visit. The owner was very knowledgeable and happy to share information about the birds. The tour was enjoyable for all ages. Everything was very clean and the birds were obviously well-cared for and healthy. When we arrived, we were greeted by 3 ambassador birds and their owner. These birds were happy to sit on the visitors' arms or shoulders and were very friendly. The other birds throughout were in cages but liked being fed unsalted nuts through the cage screens. We really enjoyed the visit and will go back.
