What to do and see in Napa, California (CA): The Best Free Things to do

November 21, 2021 Margarita Chappel

Gold and silver may have been behind the hordes that flocked in the 1800s, but liquid gold - Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons and Pinot Noirs - is behind the modern migration. This dream destination for wine lovers has an abundance of fine restaurants and inns. Horse posts have been replaced by bike racks, and pedal power is a great way to explore.

My visit to Quent Cordair Fine Art Gallery was the highlight of my visit to Napa. Linda Cordair was a gracious and knowledgeable host; she welcomed us warmly, gave us a brief orientation, and invited us to enjoy the art at our own pace, letting us know she was nearby to answer any questions. I was there with a mixed group: my best friend, my two age-20-ish children, and my 94-year-old mom, and each of us found different pieces to fall in love with. The gallery features stunning works of art, so many and so beautiful that I want to return to experience it all again. Highly recommend this oasis of calm refreshment for the soul.

Gordon Huether Studio

The "Hay Barn" houses Gordon Huether's design studio, project gallery, fabrication facilities, administrative offices and gallery. Guests are welcome to visit Gordon Huether Studio + Gallery. The Gallery is located at 1821 Monticello Road in Napa, CA and is open Monday through Friday, from 9 AM - 4 PM. Gordon Huether's enormously successful career, spanning several decades, has involved large-scale art installations, many executed in the medium of glass. In recent years he has begun exploring different media and a more challenging direction in his smaller-scale fine artwork. Using the seductive properties of richly saturated color, a wide array of natural and artificial light sources, luscious and diverse texture, found materials and quirky, sometimes unsettling imagery, his work offers viewers a complex intellectual experience.

Designed our own epicurean delight while we were in Napa. Wanted to start with a "breakfast tasting" and was pleasantly surprised to find this gem. We started with a cabernet infused coffee, went through four wines and four small, but wonderful bites. Each bite was well paired with the wine and our host was gracious to provide a couple of extra pours of differnent wines as we went along. After that a tour of olive oils and salts to round out our breakfast journey. The experience was excellent and even joined their innovative food and wine club. Recommended.

Gustavo

Gustavo Brambila, Winemaker & Owner, believes great wine is equal parts a result of the best grapes, the best processes, and only the strongest love for the art of winemaking. Gustavo cherishes this environment, and has grown one owner's extreme love of making wine into an established winery. As a family business, the same processes that landed Gustavo Brambila a spot in the Napa Valley elite are passed down amongst the generations, preserving a rich heritage and art. In the words of Gustavo Brambila himself, "Gustavo Wine is a reflection of my passion, heritage and lifetime love affair with wine. Winemaking is an artform and when others appreciate what I love, solidifies myself as an artist!". We would love for you to join us either at our Tasting Room at the Oxbow District in Napa or at our Winery located in the Crusher District of Napa, CA.

Gustavo wines was an amazing experience, even though they weren’t open on a Tuesday they were able to accommodate my boyfriend and myself by taking a reservation for us to enjoy a tasting with a cheeseboard that day and with Gustavo himself. He’s such a kind and knowledgeable winemaker. It was interesting to hear about his story and the wines they produce. We tasted 7 wines it was a great experience. I would definitely recommend going there to anyone that loves wine. It was a great way to start my birthday celebration.

Napa Valley Olive Oil

Reviewed By marie19812015 - Rockville, United States

My husband doesn't like wines too much. He visited Napa for me. However, I wanted him to do something more interesting than driving me around to wineries and that's when we came across this place. It is a small piece of Italy in Napa valley. They have about 12 different flavor infused olive oils. The owner cuts you some nice freshly baked bread for tasting these oils. Other family was purchasing some cheese, so he cut some cheese for us as well to taste. They have olive oils, pasta, sauces, freshly baked breads, cheeses, and some fantastic snacks. Definitely must visit when in Napa. We are happy we visited this place.
