Muskegon State Park

This State Park offers a variety of winter recreation including ice skating, cross-country skiing and luge.

We were amazed by the Muskegon State Park's winter sport's complex and can't wait to come back this winter! We were there in the fall to check out the luge and ice skating trails because we had never seen either one before. We walked the lighted cross country ski trails and snow shoe trails as well. We can't wait to bring our girls here this winter to try it out--luge park is for all levels of experience, so someone like us who has never tried it before can do it as well. We have been to the beach here at North Muskegon State Park and it is not crowded at all and has nice facilities. Definitely worth the extra time it takes for us to come to this beach.

This is our favorite beach. Lots of parking, clean with decent bathrooms. The beach area is huge, so even when there are tons of people, you dont feel super crowded. They also have a concession stand with ice cream, hot dogs etc. Along with rentals for water gear.

Muskegon Museum of Art

This art museum drew us to Muskegon on a day visit! The art collection and the glass gallery are superb for a town of its size. We were so happy to see the works of Hopper, Bellows, Pissarro, Sisley, Bonnard, Winslow Homer, John Steuart Curry, Henry Ossawa Tanner, and Deborah Butterfield, plus the beautiful glass gallery with Tiffany and Steuben glass and works by Littleton, Chihuly, Lipofsky, and Toots Zinsky! The museum was safeguarded for COVID, requiring masks to be work and social distancing to be practiced, with plexiglas shields in place at the ticket desk and the info desks. Friendly staff! We enjoyed chatting with them several times as we strolled through the galleries. Thank you!!

Because of Covid, arrive early as this market gets crowded! The staff was great as they controlled the flow of shoppers. Everyone was masked for safety. There was a good selection of perennials, shrubs and flowers for sale at very fair and often inexpensive prices. We purchased fresh berries, cherries, wonderful breads and scones. We also purchased a variety of masks for our kids and grand children. The vegetables looked wonderful. There are a variety of crafts available for purchase too. Everyone was nice and welcoming. This is definitely worth a weekend visit.

The Monet Garden of Muskegon

The Monet Garden is a lovely pocket garden in the downtown Muskegon area. It is a miniature copy of the real Monet Garden in Giverny, France. Features of the garden include a pebbled walkway to a pond with a blue bridge and blue rose covered archways. All flowers and shrubs planted in the garden are the same ones in the real Monet Garden.

Preparing for a daytrip to Muskegon, I was pleasantly surprised to learn of the Monet Garden. Just a year ago, we were in Giverny at Monet's House and Garden, so our visit to this garden brought back some beautiful memories. Love the garden arch and the Japanese bridge and water lily pond!! So beautiful!! And all the flowers! The hibiscus were stunning! And so many colors!! It was a great way to start our day in Muskegon.
