Muscatine Art Center

Once the private home of a lumber heiress, the Musser Museum features many distinctive architectural details of the Edwardian period. The adjoining Stanley Gallery hosts national, traveling art exhibitions. Funded in part by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Muscatine Art Center is one of only 802 museums nationwide accredited by the American Association of Museums. This honor signifies that the Art Center has undergone a rigorous and lengthy process involving intensive self-examination, peer review and a thorough examination by the Accreditation Commission. Accreditation by the AAM means the Muscatine Art Center is recognized for demonstrating excellence and operating in accordance with the best practices and highest standards in the field.

Many do not know the deep artistic history in Iowa with roots in Muscatine, but the Art Center will bring you up to speed with a wonderful long-standing permanent collection and rotating temporary exhibits of local (and not so-local) artists, often containing pieces for sale. Go there and leave with a treasure, or two!

I love this place. Great brews made on site, view of the river, and a relaxed atmosphere. Closes early, so never gets too wild (which I appreciate!)

We were in town for my work. I saw this on trip advisor & figured it would be a cool place to let the family explore. There were people strolling around and even a couple fishing. The grounds are very clean & everything is well maintained. On your way in look for the random Ronald McDonald in someone’s back yard. The kids found that hilarious.

Wildcat Den State Park

Reviewed By SusanM893 - Davenport, United States

Wildcat Den has always been a favorite place of mine. Unlike our neighboring state of Illinois, the state parks in Iowa remain open during this unusual time of the COVID-19 Virus. When I visited Wildcat Den there were numerous families there enjoying the crisp, sunny day. I even encountered two men from a neighboring city in Illinois running their remote controlled trucks in a stream bed.Granted, everyone was observing "social distancing". Wildcat Den is known for the rock features such as the Punch Bowl and Steamboat Rock and you'll get a good workout as the trails wind up and down the terrain. As with many state parks, the trails lack maintenance because there is never enough staff to make needed repairs. As a result you'll be going around staircases that have been damaged due to erosion. At this time when other states are closing parks, I can't find much fault with that. It was just great to enjoy this natural wonder!
