Muriwai Surf School

Muriwai Surf School is located only 35mins drive from Aucklands central city. Our surf shed is only a one minute walk from the beach. We are located in a regional park which has fantastic walks with great coastal views. The beach is a black sand beach and 45km long. Aucklands West Coast (Tasman Sea) gets plenty of swell which makes it a perfect place for surfers and non surfers looking to escape the hussle and bussle of the city for a few hours (or in my case life). From the surf shed we offer surf lessons, surf coaching, surfboard & wetsuit hire, adventure hire, blokart hire. We are a Kiwi owned and operated family business who pride ourselves on our old school friendly service.

Muriwai Gannet Colony

Visiting the gannet colony here is now much more accessible to everyone with the new paths. The gannets are fascinating to watch, especially as they come into land and have to negotiate the winds. You can observe the birds at such close range, the are such beautiful birds. A walk down to the beach is for the more sprightly. Parking is free and there are toilets located here as well.

Muriwai Beach

Reviewed By shonas804 - Auckland, New Zealand

Muriwai Beach is a wild west coast beach and dangerous for swimming, so make sure to swim between the flags and where possible swim on the incoming tide! There is a wonderful cafe here, plenty of parking, toilets and of a course you can walk up to the gannets. You can walk for a very long way along the beach .... make sure to turn and look where you began every so often! On a wild and windy day when the rain is blowing in it can also be incredible with the blowhole on the rocks.
