We came to Moundsville specifically to see ....the Mound! Exceptional FREE visitors center with many artifacts from area inhabitants dating from a thousand years ago . Stone and bone tools and decorative items provide a glimpse into a native culture and way of live largely ignored by our educational system. Fascinating.

We stayed in our first treehouse style cabin this weekend and it was beyond our expectations. The cabin was in excellent condition and included a wood burning stove/fireplace, a full kitchenette, one bedroom (comfortable bed), a lovely view of the woods, and a hot tub on the deck. We stayed two nights. The lady who checked us in was really nice and helpful and told us about the park and the area. The only downside is rained like crazy (1.5 inches) so the trails were too muddy. And all the cool adventure stuff is closed for the winter. We would definitely come back and probably bring our teenagers next time.

...I finally went inside this nice Krishna temple that's by an awesome small lake in a beautiful corner of West Virginia. It's part of a retreat center that has cabins for rent, a restaurant, the beautiful lake with some interesting Hindu and Krishna related sites around it, and this peaceful little temple. It's part of a Krishna community with the larger Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold temple at the top of the hill, which is more like a tourist attraction with an admission fee and a guide taking you around. This is like a smaller, less ornate temple where you see families and other visitors come in to meditate and do their religious practices. I believe it also serves the broader Hindu community and not just the Krishnas. I just like walking around the lake and seeing the peacocks (a couple of which are all white), statues, and peaceful people and kids just having a good time in this beautiful setting. Guess I live a little over an hour away from here and always think about coming back; I intend to visit more. I really wanted to see the inside of the temple this time and if you know me, I don't want to go inside anywhere these days. But there was very few people here today, and the place is big enough so I spent about five minutes walking around inside, of course being my usual double-masked self. It's pretty inside, and there was a man in robes playing a guitar and singing for a couple small families sitting on the floor in front of the main murti/altar. So wish I had a family to be here with and so lucky that I don't. It doesn't make a difference, I know I wouldn't be happy either way.
