L' Artisan Nougatier

Reviewed By Helena G - Kingston upon Thames, United Kingdom

We were welcomed by a nice, friendly lady that took care of us and helped us find the right "nougat"to take back home! There was a wide choice between chocolate, tender, hard or with tastes like lavender and we found everything we needed. Definitely the best nougat shop of Montelimar, with the best atmosphere!

We had an excellent eperience visiting the Nougat Fabrique and Museum. Very ingenious how the two have been integrated. Visitors learn about the nougat cooking process as well as about its history. One recommendation translate the subscriptions in English and the visit will be appreciated even more....

European Fighter Aircraft Museum

Welcome to the Montelimar Aviation Museum. Situated on the outskirts of the touristic city of Montelimar, the Museum has one of the most magnificent collections of aircraft and engines in South Eastern France. It is one of the major sites dedicated to the preservation of our aviation heritage in South Eastern France. Most of our aircraft were fully restored at the museum. Founded in 1987 and run by a dedicated group of volunteers and members, the Museum has expanded to have an collection of not just 66 aircraft and many engines, but models, radio transmitters and many other items associated with aviation.

mostly French of course ( Falklands war....) eg Bleriot, amazing to think anyone could risk that.
BUT the usual French thing of being shut from 12 to 2 is so annoying, and no tickets sold after 11.30 too.
Actually you can see a lot from outside and in the foyer and thus save yourself a lot of money!

Chateau des Adhemar - Centre d'Art Contemporain

Contemporary art centre Property of the departement de la Drome since 1947, the Adhemar’s castle is a « monument historique » (listed monument) and, since 2000, a contemporary art centre. This centre works with artist projects linking both a high standard of proposals and a real firmly fixed territorial spot. The aim of the centre of contemporary art through the three Castles of the Drome general council (Adhemar at Montelimar, Grignan, Suze-la-Rousse) is to match contemporary creation and cultural heritage. Since its creation, about a fifty temporary Exhibitions has been performed with renowned national artists, even international and younger ones.Besides the contrast between medieval architecture and the various forms of present creation, the castle originality is expressed by the artists who have to keep in mind the important patrimonial dimension of the place. Then, each artist develops a strategy in their creation to emphasize, to refute, to express, to reveal or to conceal the powerful architectural presence of the Adhemar’s castle.

This a wonderful way to look at modern art and visit a very nicely renovated medieval castle and chapel.
The two parts complete each other perfectly.
They organise temporary Exhibitions.
When we came, we were able to marvel some works of Olga Kisseleva "Crossing Flow" a russian artist who was to be admired before at other worldly renown galleries. Most interesting at the least!
Only remark: I would have liked more of this. A video presention and five art pieces even watched for a long time dont take that long ;-)
Luckily there was also an included audio guide with explanations on the castle's history.
Don't forget to climb the lookout tower from where you have a nice view on the city's roofs and surroundings.

Musee d'Art Contemporain Saint-Martin

Reviewed By 10Alpaca10 - Paris, France

Just outside the city centre of Montelimar there is a wonderful museum of contemporary art. You can easily walk to it from the town centre, there is a lift so you don't have to cross the road and it stays open through lunch time! Showing at the moment are the works of Pierre Bonpain, a local French artist whose paintings, ceramics and tapestries are stunning - absolutely wonderful, colourful and well worth a visit.

Musee de la Miniature

Reviewed By Alekto - Edinburgh

We have visited this museum in the past and greatly enjoyed all of the miniatures. We took our granddaughters today. Imagine our disappointment to find that ALL of the beautiful little miniatures (doll's house rooms, tiny models etc had gone! On enquiring, we were told that the new director (a man) had disposed of them all and that they are now in a private collection - purchased by a lady who lives in Paris.
Two of the floors now have Exhibitions which are nothing to do with miniature art. The ground floor still has the incredible collection of paintings on seeds etc but there is not enough to justify a long drive.
