Peacefully tucked away in the heart of the northern Rocky Mountains, Missoula is the perfect spot for a weekend of history, culture and outdoor fun. Home to the University of Montana, one of the most architecturally distinguished academic institutions in the country, the city offers a number of intellectually stimulating attractions. Spend a few hours browsing through the exhibits at the Art Museum of Missoula or take a trip back in time at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula. Missoula's historic downtown area has classic early-century buildings and boasts unique shops, galleries, fine dining and a lively nightlife. With kids in tow, don't miss Dragon Hollow, a magical playground that features an extraordinary hand-carved carousel.

We had a wonderful 5-6 miles walk through the woods and field, lunching at an overlook over Missoula. The drive to the Sawmill Gulch Trailhead was very easy.

I lived in Missoula from August 1997-August 2000. I still have lots of friends who live there. One of my FAVORITE things to do in the summer, was go to the Farmer's Market! Tons of fresh fruits and vegetables to choose from, flowers, baked goods, artists, jewelers, and more, more, more! I can virtually guarantee you'll enjoy yourself! :)

Blackfoot River Outfitters

Our day trips usually start by meeting your guide at our Missoula shop or being picked up at your desired location around 8:30 a.m. We gear-up and head out to wherever's fishing. Typical drive times range from ten minutes to about an hour. With hundreds of miles of water, the options are virtually endless and you can choose between floating and wading for full or half day trips. We also offer whitewater/fishing combo trips through the Alberton Gorge on the lower Clark Fork (offered typically from August through mid-October). Day trips include your guide, lunch and shuttle (for float trips). Plus, you'll gain plenty of local knowledge about the water, hatches and techniques. You should also know that our are not of the "on the clock" variety, spending as much time on the water as their clients wish.

Imagine Nation Brewing Co

Reviewed By 109ChrisM109 - Grand Ronde, United States

Beer takes a backseat to style here, and definitely not in a bad way. With a name like it possesses, you have here a brewery who makes many nods to the intellect, to artistry and to great thinkers, based upon their artwork. I suppose with breweries becoming a virtual norm in the country and particularly in the west, and especially in college towns, you’ve got to find your niche. Imagine Nation does exactly that. Bravo! Their beers were, on average, delicious. And they’ve an advantage that is exploited considerably: the river. I’m guessing few places are better in Missoula for passing a summer day and evening. If I lived in Missoula this would be one of my go-to’s. There you have it.

What a fun experience! We had heard about escape rooms before, but really didn't know what to expect. When our family arrived, we were given excellent instructions and then taken to an amazing and decked out theme room. We were pleasantly surprised by the level of sophistication in each room and had a blast figuring out the clues. Our kids, 11 and 8, were able to fully participate and we all felt that we were able to contribute equally. It was great having a few hints given to us, and we can't wait to do this again. It was one of the highlights of our trip!
