Nakagomi Fruit Orchard

Nakagomi Orchard is fruit picking farm located in Minami Alps City, Yamanashi pref. You can enjoy various fruit pickings for every June - December period. Please feel free to visit us with your family, friends and colleagues!

I volunteered at the orchard for about 1 month in November. It was a GREAT experience! Every day we had interesting conversations, delicious food, beautiful views, and something new to do. I've lived in Japan before and met lots of people, but among them all, Kazu was able to share the most knowledge about Japanese culture, fruit farming, and many years' worth of overseas experiences. I would recommend it to anyone seriously interested in Japanese culture who also appreciates quiet days in the countryside.

Mt. Kitadake

Reviewed By Tomokiamano

The mountain area around Mount Kita is one of the most popular in Japan. Access points for climbing are at Hirogawara to the east and Ryomata to the west. However, most people choose to climb from Hirogawara, where facilities are better.
There are three main access routes to the summit of Mount Kita. The first starts out in Hirogawara and follows the Okanbazawa River up through the Daisekkei Valley Another route leaves the river valley earlier and emerges from the forest at Shiraneoike-Kusasuberi. A third trail runs from Ryomata at the trail head near Nakashiranezawa to the summit of the mountain.
The main mountain huts in the vicinity of Mount Kita are the Kitadakekatano Hut , the Kitadake Mountain Cottage.
As for the scnery of the morning , as sea of clouds is very beautiful. But you should take a warm thing because it is cold at night. I have climbed this moutain many times. Mount Kita is really beautiful.

Went there during early spring and the night before it was snowing, so it was a little difficult to hike the trails and quite dangerous (for me anyway). But the view is beautiful and there were nobody else around...so peaceful :) We got to hitch hike back to our accommodation too (which is about 20-30mins drive)..lucky us!
Japanese people are really kind and would try their best to help..

Ando Residence

I visited the Ando Residence in May 2017. It is now owned by Yamanashi Prefecture and open to the public. Seasonal events are held here and we went to see the May boy's day celebration props from the past found in the area. This is the former residence of a a wealthy family the head of which was the village chief for many generations. The main building was built in the early eighteenth century and has been incredibly well kept. It is very spacious equivalent to that of a middle ranking samurai. A Boy's Day display of the prominent Ogasawara Family was on display in the tea ceremony room facing the garden. If you are interested in Boy's Day celebration held in May, please read my article on my homepage Rediscovering Japan (May).

The Toka Ichi is held every February 10th and 11th in Minami-Alps City, Yamanashi Prefecture. The festival, a harbinger of spring in the Kofu Basin, since long ago has been popular with a great many people. For a distance of 1.1 Kilometers, the Nirasaki-Minami-Alps Central Route prefectural road is lined with shops selling good-luck items such as Dharma dolls and a wide variety of other goods, to the point that it is said, "The only things they don't sell at the Toka Ichi are cats' eggs and horses' horns." During the festival, a stage at the site hosts a variety of shows, such as the singing of popular ballads, miming, and folk entertainment, with the result that both days of the festival are thronged with visitors.
